Planning a trip down this weekend. First time with an RV what do the pros take. I'll have my wife , daughter and dog. It's a pioneer spirit 18ck 22.25ft 4000 lb dry weight. Pulled by 2007 f150 4x4 or 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee 4x4 (sorta).

I am no expert on this but I have seen bigger RV's out there. Most of the time it is in the first 5 miles but I have seen some go farther if the beach conditions are right.

From the pics I saw post Harvey the sand looked very firm so I am guessing yo might be Ok but I am sure there are some locals that give some better insight. I do know last weekend the tides were very high due to prevailing winds

When kids were little we drove our 37 foot rv down pins a little way, could have gone further, but the kids loved the dunes that used to be at 2.21 miles off the pavement. We would park it, then we had a tarp we put down around the stairs, and foot tub to clean the sand off before going into the house. We also had an outside shower - so before coming in, the kids ( 3 plus usual extras) would go shower off on the outside shower, then go to the front, rinse the nasty off the feet, go in. Just inside the house, had some old towels to dry the feet off.

During the day, the kids played in the dunes, did sand castles, boogie boarded, swam, fished, did powdered donuts (this is go in the water , get soaked , then run into the dunes and roll in the sand, would come out looking like powdered donuts , then run back in the water), played king on the mountain on the dunes, would walk the beach looking for shells, coconuts, anything.

We had great meals, we had campfires, marshmellow roasts, and every night we had a sand crab chase. When it got dark, we would get buckets and go out and chase sand crabs until they (the kids) were tired, then they would turn over the buckets and let the crabs scurry off. Then back to the rinse off routine , and into the house to watch either Jaws or that 10 hour Cartoon vhs tape. Great memories.

AIR DOWN YOUR TIRES. Even if the beach is flat, having that kind of tongue weight in the sand can be frustrating. Not that you'll get stuck irreparably in the first few miles on PINS, but you can frustrate the heck out of yourself if you have to unhook multiple times, especially when turning around. You can always air back up on the way off island. My two cents.

If you are on Facebook, "friend" Nick Meyer, he is with Breakaway tackle, and he does a beach report just about every day. I would be concerned about the tide level. Other than that I have seen quite a few RV's between the entrance and +- 4 miles
