Took some time today to go see some more of the beach that I didn't get a chance to visit on Sunday.
Was hard to find an accessible beach. Whitecap closed.
South Packery closed.
Finally, Bob Hall open.
Continuing offshore wind has the tide even lower.
And sandy.
Got down to the "Bowl" on Bob Hall Beach just to see how far the storm surge might have pushed.
A LOT less than expected.
But if the day ever comes....
But the backbeach had CONSIDERABLE erosion from the storm surge.
And the wind continued to blow quite briskly.
Just look at how much of the backbeach has been eroded here.
That truck is on 35's mind you.
And getting down to the North Sticks, the Seashore remained closed.
Headed back north and off the beach, and checked out some more road erosion.
Took a drive all the way to Fish Pass, but it was closed to traffic. Headed back to the Bowl over at Luby, a place I KNEW must have been reactivated from the storm.
And it sure enough was.
Been waiting to see this again for years, and here it is.
Time for a walk.
This whole area was called the Corpus Pass complex by Louis Rawalt. At different times back in the 30's and 40's, it's passes were up to four or five, and it even had ferries to get vehicles across so folks could continue the journey south down Island between Mustang to the north and Padre to the south.
Nothing has changed here except man has come in and tried to tame it.
And litter all over it. Very dangerous area, a TON of broken glass beer bottles from all the year round shenanigans and partying here.
And again.
Mottled purse crab!
The power of water is overwhelming.
And again.
And the back was full of baitfish left stranded with only herons for company. If they swim to the Gulf through the shallows, they'll be picked off easily, and I think they knew it, so they stayed.
And the remnants of the North and West winds remained.
Just WOW.
Unreal power.
Sedges totally washed out.
Washed clear back into the sloughs that lead to the bay.
And there we were. The lost.
And it was such a sad sight...
And I didn't take the time to identify this guy...looked like a barn swallow...Senior J? And I know we'll see more of this, but it was a sad sight nevertheless.
And probably more than most, I've walked so many washouts down on the seashore over the years, that I can honestly say this one was very much like many, in that it was its deepest past the foredune ridge and into the back island.
Staining...interesting...tannic acid from the vegetation?
Anyways. Just wanted to share a few pics. Ya'll take care and help eachother. Prayers for every last one that has suffered at the hands of this storm, and for those still dealing with it's aftermath. Going down the Seashore tomorrow to see what it's gonna be down that way.

"Unimaginable power", is absolutely right. Thanks for the pictures with identifiers. Look forward to your next report. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

Thankyou...I'm torn between that and a Northern rough-winged swallow. It was smaller than a rough-winged swallow should have been, so I do believe you're right with Bank Swallow. Thanks. _________________ Protect Padre at all costs for future generations to use and enjoy and never forget our freedoms aren't free.

| Thanks for the report, Colin. It's very much appreciated for those of us not as close to the area so we can get an idea for the state of things down there. Thanks again |

Thank you for the pics and text. I look forward to more.
How is it that the Seashore will be open today if it wasn't yesterday? |

Thanx for your report and photos!
I saw a little bit of Island House condos that is our home for 10 weeks starting the second week of January. They survived with minimal damages. But, we make day trips to Port A and Rockport. I am guessing that Charolotte Plumgers took a hit.
Any info on Mustang Island State Park? |

I enjoyed the get away with those pictures. Made the end of the day a little better.
My world took a hard hit but my family is safe now and we will recover! There's a whole lot more folks less fortunate than us! I'm praying for them, for the family's of those who died, and especially my fallen brother officers family. |

24 1/2 years in the Navy with 3 tours at sea taught me that one either learns to work with the power of moving water, or die stubbornly trying to fight it. Moving water is relentless. _________________ Gary J
