Hi guys, I have been coming down for years. We normally camp at the 35mm. I have around 10 to 15 people coming with me this year. We all have 4 wheel drives, but since I will have new PINS drivers I would like to camp on the north side of big shell. At what mm are there wide sections of beach for a large group? I would like to get as far down before the beach get narrow and the sand gets deep. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

since Yarborough is closed, that's a nice, wide section of beach right there at the entrance...15mm

Just drive to the end. Its worth it. There is a ton of room and you can fish the jetty too. Just bring a little extra gas.

X2

When I overnight in the park that is the area I like to set up camp.
Plenty wide with some nice pockets up next to the dunes where you can pitch tents away from the low and high roads and out of danger.

Becky's advice is spot on and there is one right near the 18 before it gets narrow and soft.

We made it down June 23-July1. We camped at the 17.5 and had a great time. We put up our Beach house again, and it put up with the rain and wind. Park service was worried that we would leave it up. We tore it down and left someone some good fire wood. Most of the wood was found past the 35mm. Hope to be down again next June!!! We did catch some tout and other fish. Thanks Guys !

Are there any photos of your "beach house" you could share with us?

Was down to the 20 or so on Sunday, and saw your firewood pile as we drove by. Glad you had a good time, and you picked a good time to go. The winds got up earlier this week, and the blowing sand has made driving way worse in spots. Still, Little Shell was a good Sunday trip.

A local Corpus Tv reporter did this report on our house http://www.kiiitv.com/news/local/island-report-ins/452925687 As You can see we had brought down some wood this year. We always tear down our Beach Houses. We took all the wood we brought down with us off the beach. We have coming down to the PINS since the 1970s. When drive over 1200 miles to camp on the Beach for 7 days you can use a good wind break. Take Care!
