The official season projection isn't final yet from NMFS, as they can't set the federal dates until all of the state set their state water seasons. That being said, the states are projected to catch 77-79% of the private angler annual catch target within state waters, which leaves a scant 21-23% of the catch for fed waters.

So I imagine the seasons will run 18, maybe 23 hours this year!!!!

its an utter and complete failure....the recent ruling on amendment 28, well, I don't even want to get started....

I did see a potential beacon of light though, the new amendments for LA, MS, and AL to manage recreational harvest out to 200 miles? a new flavor of regional management? or is this the old bait and switch technique to enable the GC fake another two years of hope for the recreational fisherman while ratcheting down even more draconian regulations in the end?

in similar business, see you in Tampa in a couple weeks?

fish people.

what is the effect of red snapper over population at wrecks, reefs, etc?

I have been curious to what happens to toehr species when snapper become so prolific that they're the only thing you can catch.

Is it worth coming down for the usual June 1st opening of the Federal Waters for Red Snapper?

Or with the craziness of the fed season, is it just as productive now to fish state waters?

Becky speaks the truth. 200 miles 'state' regulation?!?! It's in the form of a 'framework' now, but me thinks it's a classic bait and switch.

But yea, gray snapper in Tampa. See you then. CS

Yes. Actually any ramp. Just make sure and catch them on your way in. Don't get caught outside of 9nm with red snapper when not in season. This whole thing is a joke.

2 or 5 day snapper season while commercial guys go at it day after day?
allegedly exceeding the recreational AJ quota in 2016? (Where the f does the quota come from? are we supposed to believe they actually know how many AJs are in the GOM?)

Now for 2017, They've shut the rec AJ season down in March, when there actually becomes an opportunity to clear the jetties. Meanwhile, you can bet your supple bum that amberjack will be the fish of the day at dozens of restaurants all over the gulf coast. as long as the fish markets are happy is all that matters I guess.

the hell with these bastages. Maybe I can fish for fcking jack crevelle, unless I go buy some catch shares from people like the fish stock broker trying to sell them on the classified page. It's time for the states to take back these waters. Or the people. The federal government is out of control.

They eat everything. I go to spots where I used to catch grouper, mangrove, vermilion and other assorted fish. Now all I catch are the endangered ARS. If you drag a ribbon fish and bump the boat into neutral, it ARS on every time. Same thing is happening in Florida with the Goliath grouper.

"Don't blink or you might miss 2017's THE red snapper season"

Since it hasn't been a "season" in a good number of years I make the motion that heretofore it be referred to as "Red Snapper Day" Rolling Eyes

Seems Legit !!! Cool

[And I failed to mention the 'accountability measures' that will impose an additional 20% reduction in the Rec Harvest, because that sector is always going over their quota, every year.......
