|
|
Hello everyone!! I apologize ahead of time, I could not find this topic in the archives. I am currently moving from Hawaii to Corpus Christi this month and will be flying in to California and driving to Texas giving me ample opportunity to find an ideal boat for the right price.
I was wondering if there is a general consensus on what is a good all around boat for Corpus. I am wanting to be able to hit the shallows along with the open sea. Is there such a boat?
Any thoughts and opinions will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!!

Are you Navy? Just asking. I like my 21ft Majek. Good boat for the flats but it's not a heavy seas boat. Good for calm days. There are some shallow running vee hulls. I'm sure someone will chime in on it. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

A 23' cat for the fair/calm days out at sea.
Also will run the shallows with no problem. Not a lot of smaller boats head out to open water.
Might want to see what style of fishing you like and where you will spend more time at. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

| are you wanting to fish in the flats, off shore, general run around booze and cruise? (not that I'd condone that)> |

| You've asked a difficult question for any one of us to answer, because how a boat performs is a personal like or dislike, and every boat is said to be a compromise. However, the longer a boat is the more comfortable the ride, and a the shape of the hull generally determines how shallow one might be able to ride or drift, or how well it will take rough water or even large waves in the Gulf of Mexico. There are several good boat manufacturers in Texas who build boats customized for our bays and gulf. I would encourage you to wait until you arrive in CC to begin your search. In the meantime you might go to 2coolfishing.com and look at the classified ads to get some ideal of what boats are available used, how they are outfitted, and the kind of prices one might be looking at used. A CC manufacturer building different hulls applicable to different uses on our coast, and very popular to saltwater fishermen in Texas and elsewhere is Majak. Good luck on your search, and let us know, as you develop specific questions. |

The best boat is a friends boat. Pay for all the fuel and you will always get invited. Help clean up afterwards and you may get to take it out yourself.
Like the others said, depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. I've owned a few different kinds and been in many different makes and models. They all have pros and cons. There is no perfect boat; in my humble option. |

I've been happy with my Panga Marine Marquesas, and you see a few around. Not super shallow, but does well offshore. _________________ dunedawg |

| I saw a stack of Panga's at Top Gun Marine across from Black Diamond Oyster Bar. Not sure of the model, but white with blue "PANGA" on them. |

| I've had several boats with different performance characteristics for Corpus. The best, by far, has been a Majek 20V. It isn't the best at anything but it is good to really good at everything (not talking offshore). There are plenty of other choices in that bay/flats category as well, such as cats. Thinking there is something good for the flats (1' or less) and also offshore is ridiculous. No such safe animal even though some folks push it. |

I've gone thru 11 boats in my life, lengths from 16' to 24'. The only "all-around' boat I've found is the 17' Boston Whaler I have now.
It's not the best flats/offshore/bay boat but like a Swiss Army knife, it's close enough. |

| Nothing I have that floats is getting used lately. I think I had more time to fish when I didn't live here. Maybe I need a Bertram or something. |
