good morning Becky,
the low water alarm goes off after the engine warms up yet the engine is peeing. maybe the impeller? also need the back plate transistors replaced or a wiring problem. _________________ "When times are tough,

yes, it could be the water pump needs to be changed....when was the last time it was serviced? It could also be a build up of scale on the water jackets and thermostat housing....you could remove those and scrape them by hand (go get the gasket set first), or you could try a salt terminator bath....the local boat shops can do this for fairly cheap....
as for the "back plate transistors", you have me completely lost on that one...if you're not getting consistent fire, you can try a simple fix.....at night, without any lights on, take the cowling off, and try to fire the motor up....if you see ANY sparks, fix the connection....if you see sparks around spark plug wires, clean the plugs and put some dielectric grease in the plug wire....
also, on a motor that old, likely your ground wires have corroded....take each ground wire off, clean both the wire and the post it goes into with a wire brush, and finish with a coat of LP3 or something....likely, while going through your wiring, you'll find a broken connection that is causing the issue.... _________________
