Driving along Ocean Drive this afternoon it sure looked rusty red colored in certain areas along Cole Park and especially by Poenisch Park. I didn't notice any aerosols or dead fish but it sure looked suspicious.

My wife and I also noticed the shad swimming erratic at Packery Park with many of them already dead. I remember this being the first fish which died last year when the Red Tide came. We were wondering if anyone else noticed. It did not stop us from getting a limit of reds, but it doesn't seem like good news.

Getting samples as I type. Hopefully it's run-off, but I have a sneaking suspicion it might not be.

Fingers crossed......

Initial screening says Pyrodinium bahamense, also a dinoflagellate known to cause red colored water. Already been positive ID from offshore earlier this year. Does have a toxin, but not normally associated with fish kills. More so on the Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning side. Can kill fish due to low DO at high bloom concentrations

This picture is from today at Roberts and Ocean. It's definitely a distinct line, and the birds are there for a reason (all of the white dots are birds on the surface).......

After further review

Brevis is the topic of the day. Strap your boots on and tie them laces tight, it looks to be a rough ride....... Crying or Very sad
