| Just replaced the trailer springs. Dang it's hot out there. Wondering what you guys do to prolong their life other than fresh water rinse. WD? Corrosion X? |

Hate to say it but coat em with marine grease and oil. You can have them dipped but anything that bends and springs will crack any coating. Just get a tube of marine grease which is more water proof than regular grease and get a handful and go to rubbing it on. That's what I do to my axles and hubs. It will prolong their life. Marine greases don't leave a big slick at the ramp but what ramp doesn't have a oil slick.....not many. Don't for get to grease or you can use marine anti-seize on the spring hanger bolts.

| I read where somebody else does something similar with a parts brush and then keeps the brush to use again in about six months. Sounds good to me. Seems like I bought this trailer about five years ago, so that's not too bad. My brother just refitted the other boat, and between the two, I think we have about $1000 in springs, bearings, hubs, bolts and a couple of axles. Labor-that was free...uh yeah. I always like laying on the concrete breaking bolts loose and grinding u bolts in two. |

I hit them with a wire brush in the grinder and use spray-on galvanizing after a pass with that rust killer stuff in a can. Seems to work so far.
As for the brakes, dump the drums and replace them with a set of disc brakes. MUCH less aggravation.  |

Personally I would mix up some eds red (a military spec gun cleaner with lanolin in it - great rustproofing protection) and double the lanolin that goes into it. Put it into a tank sprayer and spray every 6 months or so. The transmission fluid and the lanolin in the eds red will penetrate the metal and give great rust proofing protection.

Thanks. Yep, in a lot of cases "I been there and done that". Try eds red with lanolin on you guns also. It's all I use anymore. You'll be amazed at the results and rustproofing it gives guns, and the transmission fluid is just as good or better as a lubricant as are the light gun oils such as rem-oil.
By the way, the recipe for eds red is on the net.
