So I lucked into an offshore trip on the Meat Haul out of Port Aransas on Saturday.

The conditions were beautiful even if the water wasn't as perfect as could be. There is still no weed anywhere to be seen out there.

Anyways, we went out about 30-35 miles and tried a couple of spots with little luck, but then we hit paydirt.

The baitfish looked like a tornado on the fishfinder around an old submerged rig.

We were trolling deep diving plugs, which is a whole new way to target kings for me.

We caught our limit of 10 all in the 30-36 inch range, losing two bigger ones at the boat. One of them actually bit through the plastic plug and the second, after missing him with the gaff, pulled the hook off of the plug to get away. Needless to say they were pissed and found a way to get away.

I also got to catch my first ever Wahoo.

All in all, it was a great day to be offshore and to add some meat to the freezer. (After I smoke it of course)

Nice job on the Wahoo!

Best sashimi I ever had was a 50+ lb wahoo that no sooner hit the deck and the deckhand was wrestling him down while the 2nd deckhand was slicing off hunks of meat, all the while we were mixing the soy sauce and wasabi! So fresh it was still warm, and it wiggled in your mouth when you bit down..... Shocked

It was SOOOOOOOOO good.

Deep divers are a game changer. No more three hook rigs and ribbonfish. I've been using them almost exclusively for a few years. Pink and Purple.

The Williamson brand outfish the Rapala X-Raps in my experience. Bruised Purple is my favorite color.

I've had kings hit them as I'm letting them out, and also when clearing lines with a fish on...since they float, I'll reel-reel-reel-stop while pulling them in, and often get bit.

Wahoo will hit them too Wink

Matt - Are you talking about the Williamson Speed Pro Deep? I have not tried those.

My favorite kingfish diver is the Rapala X-Rap Magnum 15 in the color Hot Head. It always seems to be the first one to get hit when its in the spread. Its a smaller lure so I troll it on 20-25# mono.

Matt, thanks for the tip. I checked out that Williamson bait. The trolling speed it can handle, up to 15 KNOTS, is PHENOMENAL!!!! Shocked

The speed alone should be enough to trigger Wahoos, Kings, Mahi and such! Very Happy

Nice job of catching some smokers. Enjoyed many of the responses from others. Gonna have to get me some deep diving plugs now.
