I received this wonderful email from Dr. Donna Shaver this morning.

"Tyler,
I believe that the section of North Padre Island north of the National Seashore that has been adopted by the Friends of Padre is between markers 292 and 302. I wanted to let you know that three Kemp's ridley nests were recorded within that section this year, including the one near marker 298 in this photo. I collected the eggs from all three nests and brought them to our incubation facility at the National Seashore. Each had a 93.8-97.4% emergence success, and 290 hatchlings were released from them collectively.

Thank you for your hard work keeping that section of beach clean for everyone to enjoy, including nesting Kemp's ridley turtles!

Best wishes,
Donna"

Kudos to FOP, Donna, and one of the better feel-good notes of the year.

But, .... is it just me, or is there something somewhat 'seedy' about the cell phone picture taking, and the rubber gloves, all while watching over a large turtle lay some eggs....... Ewwwwwwwwww............. Laughing

Speaking of scrambled eggs

I guess they want to keep a hush hush on Donna's turtle technician that was doing donuts on the precious mud flats down island, and buried the 4x4 Tahoe in the sensitive ecological habitat...

That's funny . It's hard to get away with anything nowadays . Which can be a good thing. If you have friends in a Govt. institution you can get away with a lot . But if you don't or you are not a suck butt you get burned or the famous knife in the back. I could write a book on what goes on in the upper ranks of stupervision.
