Howdy everyone. After all this time off for the birth of Elizabeth, I'm finally headed back to work Friday, so I headed for the sand yesterday pretty much just to think and reflect, throw spoons, and let the ole' Kronks know I ain't died yet, so no need to start resting easy just yet.
After hitting up just a few Navy WW2 locations that SHOULD have proven fruitful but didn't, I wiped the sweat from off my brow and got outta those hot dunes and back on the beach.
But I just couldn't shake Miss Elizabeth from my mind there. You know-I told the old lady after really thinking about it that the thought of bringing someone into this messed up world turned my stomach when I really thought about it. But in the end it's just the opposite. All the years of anger, some hate, some bitterness, some callousness, some selfishness, and all those things that each one of us fight...those things build over the years. They build. But seeing just ONE perfect being in the delivery room changed me. Just to see a living being with not a single ill bone in it's body was so inspiring. Those thoughts just stay in my mind lately, we just change so much since birth don't we?
And up into Yarborough I went.
But it was too wet for the bay that day.
But not before admiring some Indian Blanket...
And on out.
And I hit up a few other special spots that I love so much. I've missed the Island a lot, but more or less refused to leave the house lately, to stay and help with Miss Elizabeth. We only get these first few weeks once.
And the bay water being so high, I tasted what lay before my eyes, and was slightly surprised at how salty it was. Did it pick up salt from the flats or trickle in from the Laguna? I've walked these sloughs, and know that it DOES trickle in.
As time goes on, I find the Laguna more and more intriguing.
So I took a walk.
Quite cloudy and full of algae!
Just one big warm petri dish.
And THIS we do NOT do. For one, you will SINK and lose your rig. For two, ILLEGAL!!!! And three, the rest of us just don't wanna look at this stupidity!!! If it's wet, stay out! Walk it!
And I reached the bay, and stopped to take some pictures and enjoy such a special spot on this Earth. This view is normally dry flats.
Soon I was back on the beach and throwing spoons again.
Listening to GOOD tunes.
And riding.
That's a wrap. Caught skipjack all day on silver spoons and neglected to throw much cut bait other than cut skipjack, which I didn't fish hard enough to produce with, in enough different areas. But I had my one day on the sand after a 9 week long beach hiatus to care for the little one. Driving was alright, water remains high in the mornings and pushed up a bit more than average. But the island is as I left it 9 weeks ago, and the sun still shines and the birds still fly. So what's changed? Maybe just me. Ya'll take care and someone for the love of the Lord please go catch whatever I lost yesterday on a silver spoon at the 26 that looked like a flounder! Coulda been a juvenile ray, we caught a pregnant momma last week chock full of young.
I'm headed to Chicago. God bless the working man. Take care ya'll. _________________ Protect Padre at all costs for future generations to use and enjoy and never forget our freedoms aren't free.

It still amazes me that you go back in there alone. I've been buried to the doors "thinking" I could go through some of those "puddles" on the Y road-- you know, the ones where one rut looks good and the other looks like a small puddle? Takes freakin hours to dig out. One experience like that and you always get out and at least walk it first. _________________ Fish ON! |

Sweet report! Kids changed my way of life. Got a 16 and 9 year old. Fishing was my life till they entered it. Fishing is still there but man some how they come first and I set back my fishing trips until I can get one in. I'm 2 1/2 hours away but when the need for salt gets so strong I go down and get my fix. But now I have a partner in crime and makes time spent on the coast even better. I haven't been down since the second weekend in April so I am way over due. _________________ Shallow Sportn' it |

When I had a very capable 4x4, I still never drove trough anything without first walking it and probing for depth, really deep tire scars (don't want to be high centered) or a soft/mucky bottom. Never got stuck, but pulled a few fellers out with my "rice burner", after they got stuck in their American ride for not doing the same thing! _________________ Dave

I think we passed by each other at the 4x4 sign that day. I recognized your truck from these posts. I couldn't believe the seemingly endless river of cownose rays that morning... little did I know they liked DOA shrimp.
Thanks for the report! |

Elizabeth is a beautiful little lady! My son and his wife just added a new little girl to our family. What an experience! Truly enjoy your ventures to the beach, but I'm surprised the mosquitoes didn't carry you off! |

Got the motor running really good Bill! It'll be around a long time I put in all new lower unit seals including shift shaft, carb kits, power pack, coils, water pump kit, and installed a used manual tilt lock/run assembly. Congrats to your son! The little ones are such a blessing! _________________ Protect Padre at all costs for future generations to use and enjoy and never forget our freedoms aren't free.
