We arrived at the Packery N Jetty today just in time to see one heck of a catch hauled in. It was so big, it took many people and a heavy duty tow truck with steel cable to land. What was landed you ask?

Turned out some idjit in a severe state of inebriation last night apparently was speeding down the beach in a late model pickup truck, and forgot all about Packery channel. He hit the 45 degree angled granite just a bit down from the end of the railings, launched himself and his truck for at least 50 or more feet airborne, and landed in the middle of the channel where his ride immediately sank. Fortunately, he and his passengers, if there were any, got out.

As for more organic type quarry, we managed several trout in the channel side using soft plastics and an XRap Glass Ghost, but only one keeper, on the incoming tide. Tried some fishbites in the surf for whiting, but did not get a bite one. Only other fish I saw caught was at the end of the jetty. Some fishermen were using live shrimp and landed a couple of nice sheepshead. The water was absolutely gorgeous and clear green to the beach.

Remember that happening a couple of years ago on the south side. Report was that the driver was not DUI. Do find that hard to believe. In both cases, it is a miracle, that the people walked/swam away. The Lord is watching over the stupid. At least at the Packery.
