Based on the clarity of the picture, it looks more like a gray/mangrove snapper. Check this out. Got it from FAQ section.

You are correct, it's a young Red Snapper. Looks like the dark spot has almost fadded all the way and pointed anal fin.

More properly, it is:

THE red snapper !!! Laughing

But yea, a young one. (Did he throw it back? If it still has the spot, it's likely under 15" for State waters). Pretty cool, though.

[ratherbefishing - your link is for a lane/candy snapper, not a gray/mangrove. Both of those are caught off the rocks in Port A., but typically in the summer.]
