Hey guys! What's going on. Little bit of background for my post here.
We've been fishing Pins now for the past few years. I've got a 2008 F150, but unfortunately it's 2wd. I've got it leveled, on 33x12.50's. They are falken rocky mountains. So it's a pretty good all terrain.
I've never had any serious issues getting 25-35 miles down Pins I'm assuming because of how wide my tires are.
My question is, would there be a better tire than that I could pick up a set of to throw on for my beach trips. Is going with some kind of mud terrain, like a Toyo MT a bad idea because I'll dig to much? Or will that help me keep moving?
The only time I've ever gotten stuck on Pins, is coming back through that trail about 15 miles down, but that's because my rear basket drug.
Thanks for the tips/help

Have had both the Goodyear All-Ter. & the Mich. LTX/MS. By far, for the beach,it's the LTX/MS. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

I had some Michelin AT's on my suburban when I picked it up (don't remember exactly which ones) but they were decent and got me by. Upgraded to the BFG KO2's and will never go back for beach tires. They are phenomenal and I haven't had any issues with them. BFG upgraded the sidewall protection on the KO2's from the KO's and it paid off. During Sharkathon I was running down PINS with my buddy and his Goodyear AT's ended up getting a total of 10+ punctures from hardheads, most of which were in the sidewall. I had one very slow leak in one of my tires.
But, having 4wd is a game changer. That being said, if upgrading to 4wd isn't an option I highly recommend the KO2's.
Hope this helps some. _________________ -Pat |

From what I've read, the Iterco TRXUS STS is one of the best tires for sand with decent street manners. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

| In my experience on the sand less aggressive tread and wider tires is the ticket. If the tread is aggressive they will tend to dig too easily. In my younger years I ran with a group of 4wd's around the beaches and down PINS, and the guys with the mud tires would get stuck constantly. I could pull right up to them with my BFG all-terrains and have no problem. I have the BFG KO2's on my truck now that Yak Daniels is talking about and love them. They have a little road noise compared to the Goodyear street tires my truck came with, but they're worth it. |

BTW: No matter what tire you run, airing down helps with flotation over the sand. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

I've been running the BFG KO and KO2's for 15 years. They may be pricey (I went to the 315's to save $50 from the 35's), but I've put 100,000 miles on every set I've owned and NEVER had worn tread. Never had to air down. And have never been stuck. Great tire. _________________ Fish ON! |

You definitely do not want mud terrain tires... I've always kept it basic and have ran BFG all terrains for years, love 'em. _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Holy cow you guys are awesome! Thanks for all the replies and input its greatly appreciated.
So it seems a good semi-aggressive all-terrain tire is my best bet. I figured that would be the case, was just interested in y'alls input.
Like I said in the OP, I haven't had much trouble at all getting down as far as I want to go even with only having 2WD. My biggest concern I guess is next year my brother and I plan on fishing Sharkathon, and I didn't know how much trouble I'd have with that many trucks on the beach, how bad the sand gets.
Unfortunately, getting a 4x4 is out of the cards for the next few years for me. My brothers Suburban has 4WD, and he'd be going with me so its not like im going at it alone in 2WD.
Again, thanks for all the input guys.

Two wheel drive, common sense and good observation skills will take you to and from 95% of the places that you want to go down there. With 4 wheel drive, when you get stuck, you're REALLY stuck!!!! _________________ Dave
