Had the opportunity to take out three people today and since we have had the fish patterned around San Antonio Bay, I hoped to treat them to the phenomenal fishing that I've had lately. First and second choice spots both had a boat so I settled on a nearby shoreline and worked it over picking up only one trout each with th a few u dersized. Went to the first spot where the boat was ( the guys were not fishing the structure right so I was confident we could still land some trout there). Sure enough they were balled up in a small area and it was a quick limit. Headed north and stopped at a reef deeper into San Antonio Bay and the water was brackish and no fish around. Headed back to Steamboat/Southpass area where water cleared up and they caught a few more while I installed a new bilge switch while they fished. Was a little slower day but still catching limits of trout fairly easy.
Taking people without a lot of fishing experience and putting them on fish is such a great feeling. When giving advice on what the most important thing is when preparing someone for a successful wade fish I say practice casting and improve your distance. The structure and methods that I fish, I see that distance is the biggest factor in who and how many fish are caught. Obviously targeting areas that hold fish is the starting point but after that casting distance increases catch ratio. My guest did awesome and had the fish to prove "it was another beautiful day on the water".
Oh we did see two state trooper boats running the inter coastal headed south. Neat looking boats.
San Antonio Bay is off the list until fresh water gets flushed out more from the river flooding. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

I know people will disagree but I have been taking more and more people with little fishing experience and I can put them right on the fish but at times due to depth you can't get all that close and ten feet casting means catching or no catching. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

Totally agree about casting distance. Cover the water.
