Nice day fishing today.

8 Pompano, bunch of bull whiting. All taken on shrimp throwing bait far.

Surf was small, outgoing tide all day.

No mullett whatsoever ! Go figure.

Time to smoke some Pompano !

Smoked Pomps came out amazing.

To recap, Tuesday's bite was more epic. Another 14 Pomps caught. 8 by myself, and 6 by my fishing buddy. The bite was steady both days.

Tyler, I think allot of people are watching this site, as I've never seen as many people on the beach on a Tuesday, post Labor Day ... Monday, beach was empty....

Largest Pomps were 19 inches with several in the 18. A pomp that large fights hard. I thought they were redfish until they swim sideways...

I wish I had today off, but honestly I've got an amazing supply of pomp fillets for the week.

The best way to cook Pomps is whole of the grill. Just gut fish, wash and grill. Pomp skin is unique and delicious. No scales. Better than chicken skin.

Yep, you got it right Sherkus! Facebook and groups on Facebook post a lot of fishing pics including pomp pics. Captain Frank did well north on Mustang yesterday for pomps.

Jay, all the Pomps came casting FAR. Placing shrimp and fishbites on the far edge of the second gut. Using a Diawa ballistic 14 ft three piece and an Avet MXL, 20 lb test, with 60lb shock leader. Trokar circle hook 3/0. Seas and wind were soft, wading out one can cast easily that far, but with the long Rod, wading was kept to a minimum.

like to grill pompano whole, too...
don't even bother w/head...
I DO score them to get the garlic, lime, seasoning and olvie oil past the skin, tho...
I like a mix of Old Bay and Cajun...
gotta watch the Cajun seasoning acct lotsa salt, tho
good job... wish I could been there w/my LDX and chrome rocket 6500..
BTW, just shrimp, no fishbites?

Didn't know that about pompano skin. I'm going to have to try it next time. I filleted mine today. Might have to go back tomorrow

Anyone know who the guys in the white astro van are? Ive nicknamed them the "White Van Clan". They were absolutely murdering the pompano on ghost shrimp. Had lighter tackle rods set out on the 1st bar, casting onto the 2nd bar face. I thought one of their rods was fixing to snap in half they had one hit so hard.
