I can probably give you some tips. I have trapped a few! Couple of questions first.
What kind/style of trap you using? Specifically the door, does it swing like a door or slam down?
Is the trap close to a feeder?
Has the property been trapped before?
What's the hog population like? Lots or just a few? |

Id love to hear some tips. Here are a few that have worked for us.
A big old cake
fermented corn - mix half bucket corn, 3 cans old stinky beer, cherry koolaid powder, add water to top of corn. Let sit in sun for a week.
Cut up apples, cookies, muffins
they love sweets |

I've had good luck taking a 5 gal. bucket about half full of corn and covering it with diesel. Mix will and pour into piles. I've also had good experience digging a hole about 6 inches in diameter and a foot deep and pouring some of the mixture in the hole. Makes them work for it and gives more time to shoot. Good luck.
There are two kinds of ranches/farms: those with hogs and those that will have hogs. |

maybe, but the diesel is just to keep the deer and coons off...
dont dump that stuff on yer ground...
just use plain/ sour corn and/ or red Kool-ade/ Jello mix...
leave the petroleum stuff in the fuel tanks...
wire the door open for a few days to get 'em used to the buffet...
they'll prolly be banging at the door to get in later...

Sorry it took me so long to answer. Been a pretty tough day in H town!
Anyway like has already been said the biggest thing is traping where they are!
I always like to have the trap by a feeder if possible. It's great to have one set strictly for the trap. I have one set right next to a trap and it only feeds once at midnight. It's pretty much a sure thing anytime I want to set it!
It's good that yours may not have seen many traps. If they are eating around your trap and not going in you may need to watch your scent. I have had situations where the only way I could trap them was when I wore rubber boots and gloves when setting it. Try that if you can't get them.
I have always had the best luck with plain corn. I've tried a lot of the mix's and soured stuff and never found it to do any better. I have used the powder "hog wild" stuff and it may help at times though. Try and keep baiting it and then set it when your ready.
Hope that helps. Good luck and post how you do. I may set mine this weekend as well and will do the same. |

| I always leave the trap tied open when we are not at the lease. I also dump corn periodically with the door tied open, especially when I am leaving for the week. They will get used to it and feel safe. We also have a ton of pigs but hey are pretty smart compared to the ones I have been around in the past. |
