|
|
Ok I have tried DOA shrimp but the best I have ever done was I would get little nibbles but no catch. It could have been a fish or a crab but no dice. Now I have try fishbites and they have worked once. But has anyone really had success with DOA products? If you have any pics of you catching a fish with DOA shrimp could you please post them..
Thanks |

How are you fishing them? They are nothing like fish bite, u have to work them in like a lure. _________________ But you ain't got no legs Lt. Dan, I know that |

I have caught more than a few nice fish on them, hooked and broke off a huge bull red under the Destin bridge on one! Flounder will crush them, but not unless they are popped along the bottom....... Like a real shrimp.
I must say that I'm NOT a great "slow" bait fisherman, don't have the patience to crawl and pop things along the bottom for hours at a time. Still, I'm getting better. I always spray them with shrimp scent.
In a nutshell, if you're fishing them any faster than it takes to maintain bottom contact (the line goes slack) you're probably not going to reap the benefits of this bait. _________________ Dave

I've caught hundreds of fish on DOA lures. And not just the shrimp, although it's my favorite.
Fishbites are great as well. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

You have to reel them along slowly with not too much action to resemble how a shrimp moves. Or use them under a popping cork. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I never used to think much of DOA baits until I went to a seminar put on by the owner Mark Nichols at Marker 37 and seeing the "right" way to use them from the guy that made them really opened my eyes.
The DOA shrimp is now one of my favorite sight casting baits. For me it works best when you have a target to cast to, such as a nice sand pocket or some other structure ad the key is to work it like a real shrimp, which takes a lot of patience at first because if you've ever watched shrimp in the wild, they basically just crawl/glide along real slow, theres not much to it but it takes a lot of patience to get it down. Glide the shrimp up to the edge of a sand pocket, let it float down to the sand and start to creep it across the bottom, if there is anything in that pocket the shrimp will get nailed.
The shrimp is killer canal lights as well.
The most under-rated bait is the DOA airhead. This thing is amazing and can be rigged so many different ways from topwater buzzbait to bottom crawling jig, the action is just incedible and this past winter/spring it outperformed corkies/fatboys for big trout for me. Flounder seem to love it as well. |

Tyler's right on the action. Slowly reel them in to mimic the way a shrimp moves forward. They don't twitch or jerk in a forward motion. If you want to work them like a jig (twitching, jerking motion) re-hook from the back side as that is how a shrimp moves when trying to escape. The popping cork can also be deadly when the winds are up. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

They are good baits. DOA shrimp lure is a good lure. it's tough and can withstand catching quite a few fish on it. Good info above about reeling it slowly...ever watch a shrimp in the lights at night, they swim slowly forward with their little front legs. They only use their tail to hop backwards when they are scared.
It really is more about finding the fish to throw them into. If there are no fish around then no bait (even live) will catch fish. However, if the angler learns the skill of finding the fish (what most people call 'reading the water') then the catch increases dramatically. |

| Thanks for the infor guy and and pic looks awesome..However I have tried hooking fishbites on the DOA shrimp to give it that smell and I would feel a pull but when I reel in the fishbites are gone. Btw on the popping cork I using Cajun thunder and I'm double rigging the DOA shrimp so instead of one shrimp I'm using two. |

Putting a fish bite on the DOA will not allow it to swim properly. Instead it will probably make it spin. Also, crabs can be a problem when you tip your lure with Fish Bites. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| That is what I'm thinking too but I feel that would be true if I was fishing at Oso Bay but lately I been fishing at Ingleside Cove off the boat ramp. And there's alot of action there!! Been using dead shrimp and fishbites and have never caught a crab yet but I have caught plenty of fish speckle trout and a black drum and a red, lady fish but all but the lady fish was just an inch or 2 under size.. |

We rarely use them but the wife got into some trout really good jetty fishing with a pink DOA skrimp. I think she nailed 8 fish (back then the limit was 10) before the school moved on. I wanted to fish but ended up just working the net and stringing fish the entire time. _________________ JJ

Using fish bites in the surf, with a small weight, there will be plenty of action just from the surf. I have caught whiting, red fish, sting ray, pompano, and of course, hard heads.
Been a while , but will again. |
