|
|
My attorney has drafted a petition that is in the form of a proposal for a new city ordinance regarding how close a waste facility can be to a area zoned for residential development (1 mile).
There are some other details involved in the document I don't want to post online just yet, but can send the document to you to read over and answer any questions. If anyone is interested please give me a call if you'd like to sign the proposal/petition.
For the immediate need, I only need 50 signatures from registered voters. From this point, the document will be filed with the city attorney, and the city council will have to vote on it. For what I have proposed, they will most likely vote "no", unanimously. If they don't realize how pissed off the citizens are, then I will have to get 9,000 signatures to bring it up to a public vote.
the way I have the document worded, I actually think this is very possible, and it will throw a serious kink to the city's plans about setting up waste stations in the middle of residential areas.

It's not going to be a landfill site, it's just going to be a staging area for garbage. |

I have some more information about the city's plans.
this waste station is being planned in part of a total deal that the city is wanting to spend 14 million dollars on. Here is the kicker... the city is trying to spend 14 million by using certificates of obligation, basically a credit card purchase that we will have to pay interest on, as well as NOT being approved by voters.
certificates of obligation are typically used for emergencies. A hurricane comes through, damages a fire station, the city does what it needs to do to get it back up and running.
This adds an entire other spectrum of issues other than creating a waste storage area in the middle of a huge residential area. |

That might have an impact on real estate sales in that area......and push them more towards where the movers and shakers want them..... |
