I'm going to take my boat into the shop but before I did I thought I'd ask the board for some help. I was cruising down the ICW and all of a sudden I feel kinda a grinding in the throttle. Then the motor starts sputtering and craps out. I have a multipurpose tach and the light above the oil symbol is flashing. I check the oil tank and there is plenty. Oh I have a 2 stroke Yamaha 200 VMAX. So I try it again and it will come on for about 5-10 secs and then it shuts off. The light keeps flashing above the oil symbol. Because of that I think its something related to the oil (duh). Not sure if it's the pump, or if the hose is blocked or what, but before I spend $500 bucks I thought I'd ask for some help.
Also, two Hispanic guys in a Majek Illusion stopped and towed me in. If you guys are on this board, thanks again. For the record they were the first people I flagged down and they stopped right away.
Thanks,

| Maybe you checked the reserve oil tank, but did you check the oil tank mounted on the engine? Possibly your engine mounted tank was empty because the reserve tank did not send oil to it for some reason? I've not had the same problem with my same engine, but I have read about the problem on TheHullTruth.com. Go there and search for Yamaha 2 stroke oil sending problem and read the resulting threads. From what I recall it is something you can repair yourself if you are at all mechanically inclined. Good luck. |
