Water vis was about 4 feet on the surf side, murky and weedy in the channel during the outgoing tide. Surf was nonexistent. First major rafts of sargassum washing in. Only bait seen were lazy pods of mullet, no shad or menhaden like we were hoping. Could barely give away a live shrimp, dangled live mullet over the place with no luck. Slide line didn't get taken. Didn't see one fish landed from 3-6pm. Only one snorkeler speared a sheepshead. Through spins and gotcha plugs till my arms were tired just to pass the time.
It was eerily dead. The cushy beautiful conditions brought out a bunch of the usual local jetty rats that I can generally count on for putting fish in the cooler, and they just their rods leaning up against the rail, out of the water, waiting for a sign of life. Hand gestures to friends across the channel on the South Jetty told us that life was boring on that side too. I felt as if the fish saw the cupcake weather and surf forecast and said "lets screw with these guys today". _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
