Your ID doesn't say where you live, but if Baffin Bay is your closest choice then I might understand your choice BB to fish. However, BB is a very large body of water and very effected by the wind. It can sometimes get, as rough, as the Gulf! There was a day in a 23' hull where we wondered if we were going to make it to the ramp safely. One of my passengers that owned a 20' Gulf Coast said he didn't think his boat would have made it! All this is to say there are many other areas to fish via a kayak which are much more friendly(safe) and accessible, especially since you can only(within reason) access BB on the west side via a kayak. Do your friend a favor and find another place to fish in a kayak. Tyler offers several books for sale on this site and one of them describes the best sites for fishing with a kayak which I highly recommend you considering. Otherwise, hire a guide with a safe rig, or find a friend familiar with BB who will take you and your friend for a day if you pay for the gas!? Good luck, and stay safe. |

Your efforts may be better spent in corpus. Baffin is a fickle beast and can get nasty in a hurry. Where the boats fish is baffin is not where the kayakers can get to. You either catch a trophy or skunk. Both Thursdays look windy so far. If you insist then use fishbites or shrimp on the bottom for drum. Bright big paddletails for trout/reds. _________________

There are a few good places to put in near the back bays of Baffin. The public pier area was recently rebuilt with new side walk and they have done some works that makes it pretty easy to park and put in next to the pier.
I also suggest waders and a life jacket, a good portion of the areas just past the pier and near the markers are 6-7 ft.
I've only been to various parts of baffin and my luck has been mixed, I have never been skunked but it has been some what slow for me, I did manage a nice fat 20" trout couple of weekends ago, but we worked hard for that trout--the only fish in 5 hours or so. |

I agree about BB being a rough trip in the Kayak. Big area. My recommendation, head to the Packary Flats north of Packary Channel, or Wilsons cut. Both offer better launching and more diversity in habitat. Life Jacket and waders a must. _________________ I wouldn't take Tuesday off if you will show me a fish that bites on weekends! |
