"Man missing in the Laguna, since last night, near Red Dot Pier. Search continues this morning for 30 year old Juan Martinez, who reportedly was wearing rubber waders while kayaking, when the kayak capsized, putting he and his fishing partner in the cold water, last night about 7:30. His partner and another man, who jumped into the water from Red Dot Pier to try to save him, both were rescued last night. However, Mr. Martinez apparently went under, and has not yet been found."
Doesn't sound too good. |

Sounds like a grim ending to the poor guy. You should NEVER wear waders on a kayak for this very reason. Once u go into the water, the waders fill up quickly and will pull you straight down to the bottom. And if he was right there in humble channel by red dot, that's Gna be pretty deep.
Sad story, prayers go out to the family. _________________ Come out & gig some flounder with Straight to The Point Guide Service!! http://floundergiggin.com/ for more info

I got thrown from a the game warden' s boat into Cove Harbor after a bunch of us kayakers were stranded after a storm and had to get picked up. I was wearing waders but no pfd. I did have my wading belt tight around my waist and was easily able to float and get back in the boat. After coming off plane into the harbor with about 9 folks on board, the back wash picked up the boat and turned it on its size tossing three of us into the drink.
Prayers to that lost kayaker and his friends and family. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook!

Terrible... Prayers go out to him and his family.
I'm assuming he wasn't wearing a PFD? Many times the difference between life and death on a kayak is wearing a PFD and knowing your surroundings. Hopefully this will be a reminder to all kayakers to at least have a PFD in your hatch and wear a belt with your waders.
In my opinion, headlines in the news like this will continue to show up if people don't excise more caution when going BTB, but that's a whole different story. _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Very sad. A cold front and wind coming through. Better judgement should have been implemented. Fishing, boating, duck hunting not more precious than life. Pray for the family. _________________

Very sad situation, I was just kayaking in that area yesterday so it is very sobering to read. Just to clarify, there were three of them that were on a paddle boat that starting taking on water.
Hopefully we can learn from this... |

| Very sad. Makes me think about all the things that could have gone wrong when I was "just fishing". Prayers to all involved. |

yeah, reports are inconsistent regarding how many people, what kind of craft, etc......news said three people on a peddleboat (think two seater with the paddlewheel that you peddle like a bike)....
that front Saturday almost caught up with us in the 21' skiff, and it would have been sketchy in that, I can't imagine being in the Humble in a peddle boat when that came through
regardless, it's a tragedy and prayers go out to the family....

| No matter your skill level mother nature demands respect, even the laguna can be cold and harsh. My sincere condolences to his family. |

| Have there been any definite reports on this, and as to whether someone actually lost their life, and if so, has the person's body been found? If not, is there an organized effort to find this person's remains? |
