I wanted some salt water reels to surf fish so I went on eBay and bought a few. I got a 210 high speed level wind, a 310 leveline and a long beach 65. Last time I was down my bass reels just wouldn't get out far enough. The new reels were all in pretty good shape. I oiled and greased them. I'm gonna be down week after next and want to try them out. I figure a couple hundred yards of mono and the rest braid, all braid? Any ideas other than get some newer reels ? |

I am not too familiar with those model reels but if you plan on surf fishing go with mono, braid, mono. The first layer of mono prevents the braid from spinning on the spool and the second layer of mono prevents cut offs due to abrasion. Also not a bad idea to upgrade the drag washers at some point depending on the condition of yours. |

That's pretty good advice. The only thing I could add to that is get yourself some longer rods in the 10 ft range. Then just practice casting with them. In my experience some of the penn reels can be kind of tough to cast. I magged mine. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| The 210 and 310 come with magnetic cast control. I'd do 150-300 yards of 30-50 lb braid backing topped with mono of your choice. |

| Thanks for all the advice. I guess I was doing it backwards by putting the mono on first and then only braid. |

| I would start off all mono until you get used to casting them. Mono is cheap and braid is harder to untangle in a backlash. Mono also casts better on those reels. Good luck! |

The long beach is more of a pier or boat reel. From what I recall the spool is heavy so it likes to keep spinning if you cast _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |
