Last week the national seashore looked great. The sand, the water, the air; everything reminded me of what the beach should look like in October. The only thing missing is the Bull Reds. Last year, in late September they had were thick at Packery and I landed me a 28 pound red. However this weekend I was thinking about taking my wife and daughter beach camping and I was wondering if anyone thought I would be able to take my car all the way to Big Shell while the beach is so packed?

Thanks

I would advise against that. There were a few soft sections yesterday as soon as 5 mile. Plus the tides were rather high.

Soft as soon as 5 mi sounds a little scary. I've never been down to big shell and I am itching to go when I get back in town. I've got a 2wd f150 and am nervous, a car without a posi rear is asking for trouble.

I've heard mixed things, some people say if you stay close shore I should be fine right now. I assume the tide is high right now due to the system working down south driving vehicles closer to the soft dunes. I hope it clears by the weekend..

My goal when I go down the beach is to stay in 2WD the entire time! And most of the time I do. I drive the waterline most of the time but when I get in the soft stuff, there is one thing to Remember... DONT STOP! You cant get stuck if you are still moving. Now to the question at hand. If the conditions are like they were last week, you could take a Skate board all the way down. It all depends on conditions. I wouldnt want to get stuck down at the jetties IN A CAR when Jesus comes thats for sure! Roll Tide!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

According to the Salty Angler web site....low tide will be at about 10am...and high tide about 6:30pm this Saturday....so if you go early in the morning...you can drive down the beach pretty far...just leave about 4pm and you should be alright. The weather system down south is moving out as we speak so there shouldn't be any high surges.
Good luck....
