The bite was decent in the afternoon. Spanish macks were hitting pretty steadily from 4 until 7 when we left. Redfish were'nt as abundant as I expected but there was enough variety elsewhere to keep us occupied. Mangrove snapper, a small grouper and a few trout were caught right in the rocks on a small circle under a split shot.

The water looked nice and clear on the surf side, surf was very low and winds in the teens out of the SE.

Mullet were abundant on both sides of the channel and were getting crashed sporadically by smacks. Then, for about an hour the mullet completely disappeared from the surface (maybe they went down?). AT this point I casted up some 2 inch mojarras that turned out to be just as good for bait, if not better (mangroves loved them). We also cast-netted up a few ornamental species for our new saltwater aquarium.

Total, between rod and reel, cast net, and our eyes, we counted 16 species. Love this time of year. We left them biting around sunset when the tide was ripping in and the mullet were balled up nice and tight. I also saw tarpon roll for than once.

Rod and reel:
redfish
trout
spanish macks
gag grouper
ladyfish
mangrove snapper
hardhead

Cast net:
mullet
spotfin mojarra
sergeant major
spadefish (juvenile)
croaker
pinfish
pigfish

Seen:
Tarpon
Jack crevalle
