| Going down to Port A tonight and will be fishing Friday morning. Surf maybe Jetties. Maybe wade alittle over by the channel. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. Are there many fish in the surf? Or should I turn elsewhere to try to catch a few. Saturday we are taking a charter out for the day. Fish Sunday morning and then head back home. I understand nobody likes to give up spots and I have been reading on what is working, but anything could help just that much more. Thanks,PirateofPINS |

the reds and trout are moving everywhere, you just have to find them!!! the best way to catch fish is to go fishing!!!
Pirate of PINS, the best thing you can do is PAY ATTENTION when you go with the guide......its not so much how much you catch, but HOW and WHERE you catch it....pay attention to the drop-off or structure your guide fishes and make a NOTE......then next time you're out, try to find similar conditions.....
sorry to go off on a rant, too many people want to become "instant trophy trout" fishermen, want GPS coordinates handed to them so they can go catch a wall-mounter too.....
spend the time on the water, take good notes if you have to, and most important, try different things and different spots until you start to see patterns......
sorry about the tirade, ya'll have fun and good luck learning....... |

That's how I bass fish - hunt them and try to fing out all the variables, structure, depth, color etc. - But I have been doing that for 30 years....... in the LM - you got shallower water ( sometimes I bass fish at 25 ft. deep) with grass, sand, mud, shale - I'm learning
BUT a big question: Are Red fish ambush preditors? I know they school, tail, sit in the drains etc. but do they hide around pot holes in grass and wait? _________________ Happy Hook'n

You took my post the wrong way Snookered. I don't get down there enough to become a trophy trout fisherman, and really don't have alot of chances to study everything when I am there as I don't have a boat and my time there is limited. The charter, I should have said is offshore (on a charter not a sponser of the site so I will leave it unnamed) so it does me no good to watch what the guide is doing for wadefishing. I have been doing my research, reading all the posts, and I go and do my best. I didn't ask for your GPS cords, I was merely asking if anyone had some tips for the area where I was going. These are places I have never set foot in. didn't mean to step on your foot.
Thank you Topdog, I will try to find some grass with potholes. It is appreciated.
Any quick reports about the surf or Jetties?
Thanks to everyone. Hope to have a great weekend and I hope everyone else does too. |

| The jetties have been producing lots of sheepshead and a few troup. See the recent post for the jetty slayer titeline. Do a search on the lemon rig set up. Perfect for jetty fishing. Also Smacks have been hitting when the water is right. |

Pirate of Pins, don't take what these guys say to seriously. You just have to understand there are lots of people "new" to the board who ask for help then drop off the board all together.
Try driving south on Padre out of Port Aransas, and hang a right on one of the dirt roads.
They all lead to the back side of the island, and the laguana madre.
Wade out, and be careful to shuffle your feet when wading to avoid stepping on a sting ray.
Look for the conditions already mentioned. Also, look for areas where the bottom transitions from sand to grass. Fish the edges of these. Try different lures with different techniques until you find what is working - that changes from day to day.
Good luck! _________________ GOBZA!!!

Fishing has a lot in common everywhere, no matter what you are fishing for, fresh or saltwater. If you are using the same terminal tackle as others are catching fish on, and it's not working, you either need to change your presentation [faster, slower, deeper, shallower], move, or both. Sometimes it's VERY frustrating but just like bow hunting, the times when it all clicks are what keep you coming back.
