Ok, I saw the sign saying park closed Sunup till Sundown? Now I see a motorized gate across the park entrance ?

Anyone seen the gate closed ? No quite sure why I deserve the park closed ?

Smells extremely fishy....

I did not realize it had a gate until last night at around 10:00 when I tried to get in. The gate was closed when I got there.

None of the other parks (Packery Boat Ramp and Jetties) have a gate so why this one? I am guessing that the big money guys in the houses on Packery whined enough to get the gate put up. I guess money does buy happiness...and a closed park for the rest of us.

Drive through the neighborhood. Take the next street to the south and then take the next right.

The gate is just past the intersection of the road that goes through the neighborhood.

It's a profanity filled sentence that best explains the manipulation of park access because it bothers a millionaire, but I would bet that that's exactly what's going on.

I'm actually going to contact the county, and make an inquiry of how the gate came about. I usually get the same answer on this one, " well, there was lots of drugs and prostitution going on there after dark, so we just closed it for everyone, even the honest, tax paying, liscensed fisherman. Who works till midnight at the base fixing our country's defense systems...

I've got an idea, how about sending a police car over, every so often, to check for blatant lawbreakers....

That is not an option apparently...Patrolling. That would actually require some kind of effort. Have you ever been to the parks along Ocean Drive at night?

If you drive into the one down the street from my house after dark you will normally find around a dozen cars in the parking lot. Spaced away from each other, all running with their lights out, and no one is out walking around or fishing in the park. Everyone is in their cars. If that is not drugs or prostitution I have no idea what else could be going on.

That parking area only has one entrance/exit and it is barely wider than one lane. A single patrol car could block every car into the parking lot and then just walk from car to car to see what is going on. Apparently that does not happen because the same thing has been going on for as long as I can remember.

I would suggest that everyone who is concerned about the new gate, and the new "hours of operation---dawn to dusk", contact the Nueces Co. parks and Nueces County commissioners. Here is a link to the website http://www.nuecesbeachparks.com/contactus.html

As you can see on the website, Packery Park is the only one that has "hours of operation"; all the other county parks are open 24/7. It would be interesting to hear WHY that is the only park with limited hours of access.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to the proposed new "County Park" south of Bob Hall--the area that was going to be added to PINS, but then the County is now taking it over.
