Hey guys and gals .... I have a question for the pier regulars here.
For about 10 years I have been going to BHP in the summer and fall to castnet gizzard shad, pogies and what not for my offshore trips. Really anything that fits in a Chum Churn. On some trips just a couple of throws would half fill my cooler. But last year and this year I have been drawing blanks. I've made 6 or 7 trips this year on carefully selected days and have yet to find bait there in good supply. A few bumper fish and some of the smaller shads is all. Am I just going on the wrong days or has it been a lean year for baitfish in the surf? I wonder if the pogies haven't been over fished by the commercials.
Your input is appreciated. |

Wrong days is my guess. Have been at Packery a couple times this year and seen massive schools of menhaden. The mullet are showing up pretty thick too right now. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Fingerling mullet were thick a few days ago in the afternoon just north of the pier.
However, it has been less than normal for me on PINS. |
