Oh Becky ! Many of us are against sector separation for various reasons. Maybe Becky can explain it better.

ironic that we need a ton of "accountability" only for species that are fished commercially.

the Feds are pandering to a small group of charter boat captains who are looking to get rich by taking YOUR FISH under the guise of accountability.....plain and simple

go to the link below and recommend that the Gulf Council adopt the No Action alternative on both Action 1 and Action 2....it's that simple to weigh in, and makes a world of difference....

what this amendment does is further sector separation, and add insult to injury....

Action 1 - Annual Catch target - setting the TAC lower by a percentage to prevent overage....on top of the already 20% buffer! one alternative is 60%!! wait-what??!!!

Action 2 - Overage adjustment - deduct a higher percentage of overages from one year to the next....the want us to punish ourselves!!! craziness...

Where do they even come up with any of these numbers for landings? Has anyone ever seen them taking any kind of measurements or weights when recreational boats return to port. I know they do on commercial boats but do they just make up the numbers on the recreational side.

Seems kind of hard to manage anything when you don't have any true data or measurement on what is actually going on. Just because a boat is heading offshore you can't assume that they are going to fish for snapper.

Red snapper are like mosquitos down here.

I totally agree with you....the federal management of red snapper is a complete and utter failure....give it to the states!

There are beaucoups big RS out there.
Because of the short 9 day season this year, I did not get any.

You could have left out "red snapper" and still be totally correct! The ONLY bodies I would leave out are the military branches, because there's no way that the states could or should all have separate militaries, and the military by definition is a tight run ship, so to speak. Do they waste a lot of money? Surely, but they look likes scrooges in comparison to any other branch of the federal bureaucracy! Rolling Eyes
