Had a great day on the pins. until we were almost out was pulled over because we had no front tag. he ask if ask me to get out and come to the back and ask if i had any thing to drink and i told him yes that i had three in the last three ours so he gave me the sobriety test. i past then and had me blow in the machine and i past that. he also had my wife get out and show him her ID and she did while he was doing my test she started to go put her wallet in the car and he yelled at her to come back and she did. he then put hand cuffs on her and made her sit on the ground, there were two other park rangers there and look at each other win he did it. one of them told her he was sorry but it was not his call. he ran our names to find out we do not even have a speeding ticket on our record. I do not know why they want to harass people. he ask if i had any drugs and i told no and he search the car anyway to find nothing. _________________ Life is good on the beach. |

I am sorry to hear of this type behavior from any law enforcement personnel. I have never had a problem with them. However, the few I have seen are usually down the Island and driving much faster than the 20MPH limit. It is not an excuse but my guess your missing license plate was probably the biggest crime this character has seen in his entire career. Next time around get his name and ID if you can and complain in writing (email) to the park superintendent. Complain now, there should be a radio log of the stop from which officer friendly can be identified. I spent almost 35 years in real law enforcement and never treated or condoned the treatment of anyone in that manner. The cuffs were a little excessive. That is the new breed of cop. _________________ since retiring, I live to fish. |

"I don't know why they want to harass people....."
That's simple: because they can! Don't get me wrong here, I'm a big supporter of law enforcement. 95% of them are good people who believe in what they do and don't have something to prove. You unfortunately must have gotten a "Barney Fife" on steroids..... or even worse!
There are those out there who get their kicks by pushing other people around, and a badge and gun brings out the worst in them. Something that I don't believe most people consider is that any cop can arrest you for anything they choose, and if you resist because there is no justification, YOU are the one who will pay the price! Sure it may all be thrown out in the end, but it's you're time and money that will he gone in doing so! _________________ Dave

| While talking about the rangers, I was asked by a ranger for my fishing license. The encounter was pleasant and the ranger was professional. I didn't realize the rangers could also enforce fishing regulations. Is this because it is on the National Park? |

| I usually won't comment on these type threads but will say this. If you ever truly think you were treated unfairly or something was done wrong when dealing with law enforcement complain in writing or in person to the officers dept. I'm not familiar with their Dept. but I guarantee they have some type of IAD. or review system set up. If the complaints on a particular officer accumulate they won't just go away, it will eventually be dealt with. |

I was down about 5 miles yesterday and I only saw one park ranger the whole several hours I was there. However I did have an encounter with TPWD and they checked our licences and gave us a fishing/weed report for the rest of the beach. Nice guys. I don't mind them coming by at all. It sucks you were harassed like that. I would file a complaint like others have said. And if enough people do it something will be done.
Kinda OT but did anyone see those large military vehicles rolling off the beach around one? Maybe something else happened down island and put everyone else on guard. Who knows. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

He never ask if he could search the car. And he mad us stand behind the car until he pulled off. I have a chl license and had gun in the console. He told the other rangers that i have a weapon. The other ranger told me he would carry one also. His badge number is 2162. _________________ Life is good on the beach. |

Another fine advertisement designed to give maximum good exposure to Corpus Christi and thus benefit tourism. And they think that a few flowers at BHP will be all that is needed. Just let one of the newly attracted touristas have this happen to them and even the water park will go belly up - that is, if the badly overdue hurricane doesn't wash the whole lot away first.
I have never seen a city that depends on tourism do so much to help people decide to go elsewhere. Wait until the Water Park touristas get their coolers ripped off - yeah that will help word of mouth advertisement. I can see the sign in the parking lot - "If you leave anything in the bed of your truck anywhere in our fine city - it will get stolen. Too bad though - Have a Nice Day!! We warned you. If you think it's bad here - go get hasseled by the Rangers further down the beach on PINS!!!" _________________ Gary J

| This happened to me a couple years ago during the winter, got pulled over for speeding (I was). They asked me to get out of my truck stand next to their truck and went over a few questions, drugs, drinking, ect....asked to search my truck, I said sure, kept a casual conversation going and all was good. They did get quite mad when I put my hands in my pocket to warm up though. However all three rangers were not from here, not even Texas. So I assumed they put these guys on the beach for the sole purpose Law enforcement, not so much fishing regulations and what not. They were surprised to find out I had been there 3 days which tells me they hadn't been working there for long. Did they have a reason to search me? I don't know, but long story short about 30-40 mins later of questions and search they forgot to give me a speeding ticket!! |

Thank You Magadorm!!! Video well worth watching. I wonder what the clowns on PINS might say or do.
I still think one of those dash cams sitting up behind your rearview mirror would be useful. BTW Texas Senate Bill 897 which I AM CHECKING THE STATUS OF, GIVES EVERY TEXAN THE RIGHT TO VIDEO ANY ENCOUNTER WITH THE POLICE so long as he doesn't interfere with an officer in the line of his duty. _________________ Gary J
