I went 4 miles north of access 6 Sunday and again Thursday, last night.
Sunday water was very clear with very little wind but lots of weed mats coming in. Surf was fishable but had to hold rod in hand. Long rods wouldn't stay out. We caught plenty of whiting and hardheads. Had my HDX out for a bit with chunk mullet and had my line busted before the weed mats came in. We fished from 5pm to 11pm.
Thursday, yesterday the surf was pretty high and rough due to higher winds but very little weed in the surf. Water was unusually cold, cold water upwelling, which I believe caused the lack of fish yesterday. Only managed a couple of whiting. Nothing on the long rods. We fished from 6pm to 10pm. Hit the pier in PI afterwards and caught only dink trout. |

Did you mean "4 miles south" of access 6? Because, as the crow flies, 4 miles north of access 6 is exactly Newport Pass Rd!! Who would have figured??
Anyways, thanks for the report (both the fish and weed, plus the cold water too, although I didn't want that last one).
How was the driving? The last time I went in that area, the first mile or two south of Bob Hall was pretty rutted out. The low road got much better after that, and by the "Bowl", was just about a highway all the way to the North Sticks.
[NEVERMIND] I just saw your location was Edinburg, so it would be Access Rd. 6 down there! And going north makes WAY more sense now. But TFTR anyways. |

| A quick check of the TCOON data shows the surf temps dropped 8 degrees since yesterday, so we are feeling similar temps up here. Brrrrrrrrr. |

| Cold water upwelling is worse this year as in lasting longer than the previous 4 or 5 years it's happened. It got up to 80 yesterday & the day before but it's back to 77 today. Hope it ends soon. |

Don't y'all know anything? Cold water upwellings are caused by global warming.......... The same reason that we reached a HIGH of 66 degrees today in Little Rock Arkansas, when the average high for this day is about 92!!!!
No BS, I was driving around with the heater on because when I left the house around 12:30 PM my car said 63, and buddy, I HATE to be cold!!!! _________________ Dave

Y'all better go easy on that "cold water upwelling" thingy. I've seen it on here so much lately and the angst that comes with it, the forum auto sensor may soon be set to change it to "Okoboji", or some other inoffensive term! _________________ Dave
