| Was thinking about taking the kayak for some night fishing around the Rockport area. I hear Key Allegro is a good spot to hit the dock lights in the canals for trout. Is this true? Also, where is a good launch spot for a kayak to access Key Allegro and is it legal to fishing near someone's dock? I dont want to upset any one out there. |

This is true but I have actually had a guy pull a gun on me and threaten to shoot me for trespassing in Lake Padre. Some fish just aren't worth the trouble. Be smart about it. It's nice to stand your ground but at the same time you have to choose your battles. I just always try to be as courteous as possible to anyone I see. If someone is fishing light from their dock, I go way around them. If they are outside where they can see the light I skip it and will come back when they aren't going to be bothered. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

X2. As long as you are courteous to the people, you generally won't have a problem. I've been fishing the canal lights for years and very rarely have I had issues with home owners. _________________ Chris |

| Week nights would probably be better than week end nights. Fewer people, fewer boats, and the residents tend to be lower key than the weekenders. I try not to fish on the weekends, unless my boys are home and want to go. |

I don't fish the lights anymore, mainly because I have my own. But when I did, I have had people yell obscenities at me. One guy even called the game warden. That was a good one. Here's what happened. I went during the day with a large treble hook trying to find a rod my ex-son-in-law had dropped the night before. The home owner was sitting on his porch. I asked him where the light was and he made some comment about getting electrocuted. I explained that I didn't want to be over his light because we had dropped the rod away from the light. I asked him what the depth was in that area and he said "deep enough for you to drown."
Without his cooperation, I kept dragging for the lost rod. All of a sudden, the game warden shows up, but he didn't talk to me. He went straight to talk to the home owner. They talked for a while and occasionally pointed in my direction. After a while, the game warden starts to leave and he says hi to me. I stopped him and told him what happened and how the home owner was being rude. He asked please not to be rude to him in return. He said the homeowner did complain about me, but that he had no right to complain because his light was more than 10' from his dock! Wow, I didn't know that. He told me to continue with what I was doing.
I continued to look, but didn't find the rod. As I left, I polity waved good bye to the home owner. Boy, if looks could kill....... _________________ HighTide
