|
|
I have used Fishbites for years and have been very happy with their results, but not anymore! They must have changed their recipe because they don't last no where near as long as they used to last. I get about 18 minutes out of them in a weak current and less in a strong current before they dissenigrate leaving only the cheesecloth hanging on my hook. In the past, I would be able to use the same one for almost an hour before it would "melt". NOT FAIR!! I find myself purchasing them more often than before and without catching the amount of fish as before.
I would sing praises to anyone who would listen about Fishbites and I'm sure I was responsible for many of other's purchases of the product in the past years. BUT, no more free publicity from me!!!
Anyone else notice what I'm talking about?? _________________ FishLady

Agreed. I haven't noticed a decline in fish caught, just time in the water. I go through them much faster. Seems like it maybe started last year cuz the 2 years before they lasted forever.
On a side note, the Shrimp seem to disappear faster than the Squid. I'm not sure but my layman's guess is inshore bait-stealers in the surf hit the Shrimp more than the Squid and I reel back in empty Shrimp much faster than empty Squid.
Just my observations but I'm from San Antonio so what do I know.

| I use nothing but the pink FB and they don't seem to go faster. Soaked some for an hour this last week. Caught a whiting. Put the whiting head on big owner hook. And got schooled by some 100 lb BTs in the surf. Man that water was awesome! |

Might just have to do with the amount of small croaker and other trash fish getting to it. I use them more than anyone else and have not noticed a change. Had a limit of drum and some surprising 18" croakers the other night on them. _________________

| Could also be how they are stored at the place you purchase them from. Frozen vs refrigerated. I dont know. Just a thought. |

Are you using the "cold water recipe" or regular? _________________ "If we don't leave any, there won't be any."

There are two different types, one is a quick release formula and the other is long lasting. One has the netting and the other does not. I personally can't stand the quick release net-less one in the brown color packaging. Sure you didn't get ahold of one of those? _________________ Stinger-A |

Nope, I only like the EZ long lasting kind with the cheesecloth netting in the blue package that comes in 2 -12" strips that needs to be cut into pieces. Been using this product for at least 4 years and probably have spent around $800 or more on their purchase because I give away a lot of pieces while singing their praises! I have even ordered from the company in Florida when I can't get what I wanted in a particular area we visited.
The last couple batches I got from H.E.B. look very 'fresh' because the color is brilliant and the strips are fat and softer than I've been using in the past. I'm gonna leave some out to dry out a little to see if that makes a difference... they may be too fresh!...or they changed their formula. _________________ FishLady

I've noticed they were softer and not lasting as long as well.
My kids use them almost exclusively, so I need to ask them, but either crab or shrimp seems to go faster than the other (I don't remember off hand which seems to go faster). But I do know we are having to re-bait more often than we used to.
We started using it late last summer when the water temps were much higher than now, so I don't think it is just the water temperature. |

Now I have noticed the flour bluff HEB ones being softer! I'm not sure why they are like that. Maybe the humidity? I buy mine in kingsville and they are still the same tough fishbites I like. _________________

Fishlady its probably the quick release strips packed inside the wrong colored bag...factories fault. Had the same problem with some that I had bought from BassPro in San Antonio.
Now what I did with the softer ones was let them dry up 2 days before I went fishing in my hot garage and it toughened them up a bit and seemed to last just like before...of course they were no longer pink, they were brownish but they still worked. |

| I have noticed the same, plus I have had a number of packages that changed color from vibrant irridescent to drab reddish black even though pack was not opened. Called customer service and they said uf stored where it is hot that will happen (like tackle bix in my truck). Did not offer any replacement. |

If she is still having the cloth on the hook then its not the quick release. Quick release scent does not have the cloth.
It has to do with the stores that handle them. _________________
