| Just learned that their house burned down close to Baffin. Don't yet know the cause. All pets and people are safe. |

| Learned about it on Facebook where they posted some photos. Not sure it is a total loss but there was major damage for sure. |

| Thanks everyone for the kind words thoughts and prayers. Dealing with claim adjuster, investigator and the seemingly endless labyrinth of paperwork and still remain open for business . Harder than we thought and we thought it would be hard . We think we have things under control until the next crisis lol. Thanks again |

Sorry to hear about this.
Just keep your chins up and carry on.
That's why we pay those big insurance premiums. |

Today is Day 2 since the fire. I thought I'd let everyone know what has transpired. We are all safe and sound and all the hounds are ok. Whiskey (our chocolate lab) and Brindy (the brindle colored mixed breed ) seem to be having the hardest time adjusting . So we just give them extra hugs and cuddle time.
When I received the text from Sally that we needed to get home immediately the house was on fire I was incredulous at first.as you might expect. My clients and I were just starting a lunch break. We were north of the mouth of Baffin along the King Ranch Shoreline. Still not completely certain that this was real, I told my guys to hang on and we headed back. As we rounded the point at East Kleberg Point, we could clearly see the cloud of dark smoke billowing into the clear blue skies 15 miles away. The feeling in my gut was indescribable knowing that was our home.
I hammered down on the throttle and for the first time in my Haynie Bigfoot 's short life, she entered uncharted territory speed wise. (Incidentally for the guys considering buying my boat, she will run 47.5 mph with five guys and a full tank of gas lol). We got to the ramp just seconds behind Sally and her crew. I left my boat tied to the dock and everyone piled into Sally's truck (mine was at home being detailed and the trailer being worked on). We could still see the huge cloud of smoke and we raced toward it not knowing what to expect.
We arrived home just as the pumper trucks showed up. The entire back of the house was engulfed in smoke and flames. The firefighters did a good job with the resources at hand and contained the fire shortly after they got there. Our employees Mike and Todd were safe and had corralled all of the dogs. (Which was a feat in itself).
All that was left for us to do was to survey the damage. The structure of the house is still standing. About half of the house burned including the washroom, "Mud" room, the main client room and bathroom and the kitchen. The living room was heavily damaged by heat, smoke and water. Our bedroom and office were also damaged by smoke a water. Very little is salvageable. We are finding out just how damaging smoke and soot can be to everything and believe me it's pretty bad.
I guess the memorabilia loss is the hardest to take. The signed artwork, mementoes, our trophy trout mounts, and "The Wall of Fame" are tops among those. Walking through the rubble wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. All these things were just material possessions and everyone that knows us knows that we aren't all about possessions.
We have everything that's important to us, our dogs, boats, trucks and the fishing gear we had on the boats with us. We really aren't in need of much . I guess the one thing we are finding out that we are missing is clothes. We literally had the clothes on our backs as the only ones we had. Late that first evening we made a quick trip to the Kingsville Wal Mart for some of their fine clothing lol. So you won't see us posing for any glamour shots for a while lol.
We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, well wishes and prayers. We are truly grateful. We are fine and moving forward. We cancelled trips through this weekend but we will be back at it next week. There will most likely be some changes in lodging and meal arrangements but we are working diligently to get back to some semblance of normalcy.
Keep us in your prayers and we will keep you updated as often as we can . Thank you Lord for all of your blessings and thank all of you for your support . |

| This may be grasping for straws but we do have need of one thing. I have a Dr.'s appointment in San Antonio early next Wednesday morning (May twenty eighth). While I have no problem driving there, the Dr. says I will not be in any condition to drive myself back. Capt Sally is fishing that day so she can't go with me. I was just wondering if there was anyone free that day that might want to go with me. Won't cost you a dime . Thanks |
