Friend back home has a older 70 hrse johnson . Runs a great on muffs but will not start in water . Any ideas what would cause this ?

replace the water pump and try again. You may be getting water to the heads under pressure, but that old motor may have an overheat cutoff relay that keeps you from toasting it. _________________ if it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is |

Check the reeds if rusty or not closing, pressure of water on exhaust will keep it from starting when lower unit is under water. _________________ Hill Country, Aransas Pass, Central Texas resident. |

| Thanks guys . It was his dads boat before he passed on and it would mean alot for it to be running . |
