Well forum mates, we are headed to Vero Beach for two weeks this Friday at 0400. It's two hard eight hour days to get there, but my sis and BIL just bought a used but immaculate Scout 220 Bay with all the bells and whistles!

We were there for the first time last june and I was boatless, plus snook season closes June 1rst!!!! Embarassed

The limit is one per angler per day and the slot is 28-32"......... That's a big freaking snook! Shocked

my fishing pal Mark went out a couple of weeks ago in Sebastian Inlet on a guided trip. He caught two slot snook and a 40 lb red and another guy caught 1 slot snook.

To top it off the Indian River Lagoon is only a few miles from the crib, and that place has the reputation as the "Gator trout capitol of the world" along with mucho reds, flounder, tarpon, drum, pomps, you name it! The Gulf Stream is usually only 12-15 miles offshore, so I'm hoping for at least 1-2 lighter swell days to go out and fish for Mahi. Last but not least, I'm seriously considering taking my cast iron hibachi for doing justice to some great mesquite grilled fish. My BIL's $$$ SS gas grill just doesn't cut it with me, i hate the damn things! Rolling Eyes

Good luck. Fished around Vero back in the early nineties and caught some very nice snook. Mostly fished under some bridges at night free lining pin perch and big shrimp. I think we fished a bridge off 69th street. Also fished Sebastian inlet, that is a great place to find big snook. Look forward to your report.

Dave, when you get to Vero send me a PM. I know a few good land-base spots to target snook between vero and ft. pierce. Also, they are getting nice mahi right now not far from the ft. pierce inlet, it may be worth a charter.

Also, the bridges have piers underneath that are near the ft. pierce inlet are good night fishing spots for trout and mangroves, and also are visited by bull sharks. Its not far from where the River Monsters guy did a show fishing for big sharks from land. There are some overhead lights that attract bait on those piers. There is also a fabled HUGE grouper under the south bridge near the inlet - over 200 lbs. Seen by lots of divers and its been hooked a few times from the pier.

Man, thanks for the tips and so forth! I'm like a kid in a candy store with the prospects of not being a "landlubber" down there! Very Happy

my wife got us a Go Pro for Christmas, I haven't even used it yet. Hopefully I will get the chance to video a few epic battles.

Luke, I read the Sebastian Inlet Fishing Report every few days. There are a few resident Goliath Grouper on the north jetty which have been taking people's Snook and Reds (not small ones either) before they can get the fish out of the water!!!!!!!! Shocked

Good fishing there and I love fishing jetties, just not from the jetty! My BIL's former house was on Cobia Drive (how appropriate.....) two boat canals in from the Indian River. He told me that he once caught an 80 pound Goliath from his dock! Last year I was there for only 10 minutes and caught my personal best Bluefish on an 8" mullet. That Blue was maybe5-6 pounds. There was also a 4' Cuda lurking under the dock that never seemed to show when I had a rod........

I had planned on trying around the bridges, jetties, mangroves and boat canals for all species, with a good smattering of flats fishing for Reds and Trout. My biggest problem in such a target rich environment is picking a spot, and being a tad ADD doesn't help matters! Embarassed

Still, with even half decent weather and 11 days, I should be able to find some fish. Something that really peaks my interest down there beside the snook, Permit!!! Last year they were biting fairly well around Sebastian Inlet and Ft Pierce. All I can say about that is that there WON'T be any catch and release happening with something that eats as good as a pomp and gets much larger! Sure would like to tie into a few. Cool
