when using a slideline, do you leave the baited reel on free with clicker on or just keep in gear. i have never slide lined and want to try it this spring and summer.

any help is appreciated, thanks

No, dont leave the reel in free with the clicker. The reel will backlass when a kingfish hits. Leave the reel in gear with light drag and the clicker. For bigger macs I rig up 70# single strand wire on vmc #2 treble hooks. If the spanish macs are being leader shy ill rig up 30# wire.

Get ready for some addictive fishing. Cool I love slide lining Exclamation Whatching a kingfish bust 4' out of the water with your bait is something else. Where do you plan on slide lining at? I started doing this last summer off Bob hall and the packery jetties and did alright. Ill be after Tarpon come summer time Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Are you planning to slideline for them or do you have another tactic?

Im gonna try different things but mainly the slide line. I hooked up a 3.5'er last summer on the bottom at night so ill have something like that out too. I really really really want catch a big tarpon this summer. Ive waited like 3 years now for that bite, I think its about time.

Tarpon have my attention this year too. But then again I'd take a King like yours last fall too. Heck, even a few Jacks. I have a ways to go to catch up.

I kept waiting thinking someone would answer this question. I'm not really the person to cover it since I have never done it before myself. Since I've seen it I'll give it a shot. Mando and you other experts can fill in the holes.

Its a technique for jetty or pier fishing where you are high above the water. It involves two rod and reels. One you use like a messenger cable. You cast out a large surf weight and set it tight. Then you take a short leader with a coast lock swivel on one end and a clothes pin othe the other. (Yea, I said a clothes pin) You then clip the swivel onto the "messenger cable" line. On the other rod you rig a hook, a leader and a barrel swivel. You take the barrel swivel and clamp onto it with the clothes pin and bait the hook with a live bait. Then you let out line on the baited rod sliding the live bait down the messanger cable until its touching the top of the water. This method allows you to top water fish with a live bait.

I slide off the pier but i think Mando do both
& yes the tech- is real close but I used a weight
from 1oz down & not a clohtes pin to slide my
bait down the main line & wait for the action .

Scroll to the bottom of the report to see my release clip Cajun. You can buy these at roys for $2something but they are really easy to make. Most everyone who sildes off BHP uses these types of clips. Thats where I learned that Cool

gator,
I tryd to slide line alot off that pier but never got into much action. I had all my luck off the jetties. You do any good off the pier last summer?

Nick,s slideaway is different just use one rod cast & anchor weight
clip swivel on line with live bait & bait well swim out to weight .
casting live bait from (0 to 200mph) is hard on the bait ; this way
is not hard by sliding a bait 100 yards .
(MANDO) need to slide off the jetties one day and need to see
how you stand rods up
