The latest word from the Gulf Council:

National Marine Fisheries Services has issued a temporary rule effective April 23, 2014, that implements an accountability measure for recreational greater amberjack in the Gulf of Mexico. This rule reduces the Gulf greater amberjack 2014 recreational annual catch target to 862,512 lbs, and reduces the 2014 recreational annual catch limit to 1,031,512 lbs, based on the 2013 recreational annual catch limit overage of 267,488 lbs.

But hey, the ACL returns to 1,130,000 lbs next year, so long as the rec sector does not go over again this year!! Any takers on that number being real next year???? Shocked

Hmmmmmmm. "No Sir, I just don't like it".

At some point, we need a Cliven Bundy in the fishing world.

All they are doing is making outlaws out of law abiding people.

The snapper rules are ridiculous as well.

2 fish in federal waters during a season...yet somehow I can go to HEB in the offseason and buy a snapper that I'd be fined if I caught myself.

BS is BS.

I heard that brother! It hurts even worse when someone like me who lives many 100's of miles from any coast goes anywhere, spending all the money and time just traveling, then has to buy an expensive out of state license and can only keep one of these pr two of those...... and oh by the way, 3/4 of "these or those" are either under or over whatever BS slot limit that the fish nazis can think up!!!! Evil or Very Mad

I suppose after Ken Salazar made the environment a better place by mandating the removal of hundreds of offshore platforms below the mudline, essentially killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of reef fish, it's time for another federal bureaucrat A hole to "take action".

Roy Crabtree, in all his infinite wisdom stated that red snapper would still be overfished if they completely shut the federal season because of the pressure from state waters.

so what's the excuse with AJs? I'm no expert, but I can count the number of keeper AJs I've caught in state waters on 1 finger.

that guy just needs his supple bum whipped. #cometothebluffputo

Soon in this country a fishing trip offshore will be as follows: A nice long boat ride followed by anchoring and a diver going over the side. "Fishermen" then drop their lines about 15 feet so the diver can pull on the line and attach a TOFU-Snapper on the hook and the fisherman can then pull it up as fast as possible, thence returning it to 15 feet for the second of his allotted 2 TOFU-Snappers to be attached. To keep it interesting sometimes the diver won't attach the said TOFU-Snapper to simulate the Big One That Got Away.

That would mean we don't buy fishing licenses and then threaten "another Waco" if the Game Warden gave us a ticket. I don't think so.

I nominate you for a special Corpusfishing.com Grammar Award, not only for the wit, but for using "thence" in a sentence.

Well played Sir, well played.

I sat in on a conversation the other night with a local fisherman up here where I'm planted. The third person in the conversation stated that "one night I took home 258 white bass, that was the most I ever kept". I didn't open my mouth. But I suddenly realized that there "are" people out there that have a meager mental capacity to not see the impact of this sort of behavior. So I just sat back and sipped my beer and gazed out across the nearly fishless Lake Mathis and marveled how serene and quiet the waters were.

This sums things up quite well.

http://youtu.be/k9evQ3_vVq8

I can get a snapper at HEB, BUT IF I CATCH ONE I GET FINED.

nah, two different organizations......continue to buy your Texas license, as it supports TPWD, parks, boat ramps, and a bunch of other great programs....

this is the Feds, and what you do in "civil disobedience" to them is another ball of wax....

You (they really) can screw around with a lot of things here in Texas, but hunting and fishing (and dogs and beer) - not such a good idea.
