My buddy and I made the drive down to Port Mansfield over the weekend. Our plan was to peek outside the jetties and see if it was fishable in a 22 foot bay boat. The forecast was showing 1-2 foot Friday, 2 foot Saturday morning and building to 4 foot +. We managed to break the jetties around 9am Friday and found almost slick calm seas. We were able to run 25-30 mph and at our spot in no time. Once we get there, the fishfinder was lit up. Only to find out that 99% was Triggerfish. We could not get bait down past the triggers. We switched over to Snapper Slappers and that seemed to work great. We managed to get our limit quick. Day 2 (Saturday), we broke the jetties just after sun up to find 2 foot seas with a little chop. we were still able to make 17-20 mph. As soon as we get there 4 boats show up. My buddy manages to get about 100 yards of braid tangled in the prop shaft. I was afraid of blowing the rear seal so in the water I go. After a 45 min prop removal in the choppy water we get it going again. By this time the wind had picked up to 20 mph +. We managed another limit and also landed a nice gag. It fought awesome on light tackle. We headed in just in time as the conditions were getting bad. Day 3 (Sunday) Windy conditions kept us inshore. We fond some clear water and an oyster reef that looked promising in about 2' of water. As we are dropping the power pole, I see a huge Bull shark with his whole back out of the water. That was cool as we were way back in the bay. I have never seen a shark of that size in that shallow of water. We were able to net a few dozen mud minnows. I caught my limit of reds with in a hour while my buddy fights with wind knots and break offs. He ended up with 2 and we tried for 3 more hours to get that last one but didn't get it. After that, we headed home. It turned out to be another awesome trip. I have never been to Port Mansfield and been disappointed.
