| Went SBH about 8:30 and weed was more than horrendous. Line would only stay out 5 minutes and take 10 minutes to clean. What was bad wasn't the sargassum but the green mossy weed that clings to your line. After having to cut my line a 2nd time to clean it, I had enough and left. Stopped at NPJ on way home. Water was great with no weeds. Stayed for about 20 min. but didn't see anything caught. Water from jetty north was relatively weed free. |

Be careful what you wish for: if it did, there wouldn't be as rich of an ecosystem and the fishing, shrimping and everything that goes along with it would suffer. When life deals you lemons, make lemonade!!!!

w/o the sargassum, there'd be no barrier Island and no bays behind it.

A little history here. I might also add that todays younger folks don't realize how good they have it.
I was born down there in 1954, learned to fish there when I was 5, went to grades 5 and 6 there and started my senior year too. Between those times we always came to CC for Christmas and a summer vacation. We did LOTS of fishing on the island and bay.
The norm back then was dirty, chocolate milk water, with sargassum everywhere maybe 1/3 of the time, and those who caught Smacks and kings off of BHP were the lucky few, not a day to day deal. Having the green water move in closer than a mile to shore was so rare that we just about flipped out when getting the first glimpse of the surf over the dunes when driving into the pier.
The bay was ALWAYS dirty! Far from the some usual shade of green that it is today. There was no (always open) Packery channel with jetties either, so the pier was really crowded on the rare days that the water was half nice and the fishing better than so-so.
Be glad for what you have.
