Don't ya just love it when you get a free pass to pretty much do whatever you wanna do? That's what I had for Saturday because the wife was throwing a bachelorette party for her friend. Friends were called, plans were made and we had a three amigos guys only trip down to the greatest place on earth, PINS. We had decided to go about 12 miles down and that's what we did, stopping about the 12 1/2. Driving wasn't bad at all except for the very beginning, other than that no 4wd needed.
A wet foggy morning
That didn't stop us from banging out some whiting and got them rigged up to be deployed. The surf was relatively small and made for an easy paddle to get the baits out. Here's the spread partially weeded out.
While the baits were soaking we get a few more whiting and manage 3 good sized pomps all 15 inches or bigger. I really considered running them out for shark bait but they just taste so dang good I couldn't do it lol.
Sometime during this one of the long rods gets weeded out particularly fast so we reel it in only to find this little guy on the end of the line
37" Atlantic Sharpnose (correct me on the ID if I'm wrong). Definitely not the monster we were hoping to catch this trip but at least it got us on the board for the Texas Shark Rodeo.
And the release..
So despite the ever worsening weed conditions we decided to re bait and deploy the long rods again. The sun actually started to peek its head out for a bit
Sittin and waitin
With the night only a few hours away we gathered some wood to build a fire that just didn't want to be built. We forgot anything to start the fire with besides a lighter so we improvised and used the last of a remaining roll of toilet paper and trash from the truck to get it light but it actually worked and we had fire.
After sitting around a while we check the lines and they are all totally weeded out. So we begin the long task of untangling the lines and with all the weed, we never even knew this was on the line...
39" red
that was pretty much the day for us and I would say we probably had more fun than the girls at their party. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Thanks for the pics. I thought the sun was going to stick around once the clouds broke but that didn't happen. Beach south of you to the 21 looked the same with double or triple the weeds at the water line. |
