I'm doing something thats probably a little bit crazy but I have my reasons. I frequent PINS in the warmer months but rarely for longer than a few hours and in some cases stay for a weekend. And I've never been further than maybe 6 or 7 miles south.

I'm taking a solo trip for three days way down south to get away from as much as possible. Can any of you regulars or those who've been recently toss some advice my way? what I might run into (law/illegals)? What I might need to take - other than the obvious.

Thanks.

An overnight stay at PINS sounds like a great way to ring in the Christmas holiday. Out of all the time I've camped PINS I've never encounter anything bad. There is a thread on here, not sure how far back, that discusses the recent actions of the park rangers. It's worth it checking out if you can. Good luck. Give us a report when you can.

Ok, found the thread and definitely made me reconsider some of the things I was thinking. I guess a firearm for defense is out of the question. I just know I've heard stories about illegals and whatnot.

the illegals you will encounter occasionally the legals are the ones who you will run into routinely hope they don't have a negative effect on your trip

Now that you mention it, a trip to PINS over the Christmas holidays does sound pretty awesome. I've been down there many times at all times of the year and never had any problems. I would be more worried about the stinging sea life and trash on the beach that anything else. Smile

I vote that you go for it. Do not put too much concern into the ones who are constantly telling us "the sky is falling, the sky is falling." As in every endeavor in our country during these days if one uses a little common sense and trust in your basic human instinct things will be fine. PINS would be a great place to spend some quality time and if I could get down there I would....in a heartbeat.
Hopefully the water and conditions will be as good as they can be and you will catch a ton of fish. Give us a report when you get back and have fun.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

thanks for the input. There is no doubt I will be going. Just trying to figure out what all I might need for an extended stay in less than warm weather.

As for weapons, according to the site it is legal to posses a weapon as long as you are legally allowed to posses one period. Interesting - I assumed it would be illegal.

I'll snap some pictures and report accordingly. With a little luck I'll have a solid harvest to show off. Smile
