Yesterday I started my Christmas vacation. One thing I was looking forward to was sleeping in. When that didn't happen I decided to take a drive down Shoreline to catch a sunrise. A lot of joggers were out early in the morning despite the strong winds and cold temperatures. Took a ride all the way down to the oso bridge and walked out as far as I could to catch a glimpse of this beautiful scene.

Snapped a few more pics on the walk back.

Found myself cruising the Island a while later when I decided to stop off at Marker 37. I didn't have any of my gear except my daughters spinning rod rigged with 6lb mono. Walked the end of the pier and the first cast is fish on. With only 6lb mono it took a couple of minutes before the fish surfaced. I was able to take a pic of my bent rod while line was stripping.

With no net or any other way land the fish I decided to reach over and try to grab the leader. Big mistake. I almost took a dive and while I steadied myself the line snapped. I was able to snap this pic before my attempt. It doesn't do the fish justice but from what I could tell he would have pushed 30in if not a couple more.

Stuck around for another hour with every cast producing some good size whiting. Did land one trout that was just under 15. If I had my stringer and icechest with me I would have had a nice freezer full of whiting fillets. Shrimp/fishbite combo was the meal of choice. I have several honey-dos to get done today so I won't be out until tomorrow evening. Hopefully the drum will be biting.

Those Fishbites really work, my favorite go-to bait! Good work with that 6# test!
