It's been awhile since I have fished PINS. If you don't live in the local area and you are fishing PINS for multiple days, are you still only allowed one daily limit for both days or can you possess fish from Day 1 and then still have a limit for day 2?

Thanks,
SportFisher

I have always wondered the same thing. I usually go down to Port A for a few days and I keep a cooler in my hotel room for my fish to avoid any problems, not possible if your camping at pins. The possession limit is twice the daily bag limit so I imagine you wouldn't have any problems but then how would you prove when the fish were caught? Tough situation Very Happy

I'm putting some fresh leaders together. I won't be able to get out on the water until the 16th so hit the forum with some reports.

That's why the regulations exist guys, all one needs to do is look.......
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/regulations/outdoor-annual/fishing/general-rules-regulations/definitions

Asking other people about regulations instead of going to the source is fraught with peril! Wink

Thanks, I think we all can read. Very Happy Has anyone actually had an experience where TPWD has checked you with more than a daily limit and was ok with you telling them it was two days worth of fishing? It seems like there would be a lot of abuse if you could possess twice the daily limit while still fishing.

Thanks,
SportFisher

Two things:

Generally speaking, if you run into the "Possession Limit" issue anytime fishing on PINS, you've had a REALLY good outting and probably should leave before you create bad karma. Give thanks and go home.

However, if you are fishing on PINS for MORE THAN FORTY EIGHT HOURS at one time, are terribly greedy and fear you may run into a "Possession Limit" problem, have some fish for lunch or dinner, or make some ceviche. While this may sound to some like walking the edge, the law says what it says-- "possession." Please note, this is a different definition than your daily bag limit: they daily limit is the number of fish that can be TAKEN in a day, regardless if consumed or not.

I have been down island a handful of times on multi-day trips where the rangers have stopped and checked the ice chests, including occasions where we've clearly had more than a daily bag limit-- they made us take every last fish out. If you are honest (with them, and yourself), you have nothing to worry about-- plus, a fish that has been on ice for 24 hours looks a lot different than one that has been on ice for a couple of hours...it aint rocket science for the rangers to figure out if you're telling a long one....

Fish hard. Fish honestly. EAT WELL! Very Happy

You cannot possess more than the daily bag while fishing so camping on PINS it would be illegal to keep more than a daily limit. Park ranger may or may not care but a game warden would ticket you if you had over your daily bag

They know when you're lying. I have been checked countless times inshore , offshore, from the swamps of LA to the Rockies of CO. They know within seconds wth is going on and if you're legit. They don't even ask to see my license half the time cuz they can just tell by asking. Maybe I have gotten lucky....

Possession Limit:The maximum number of fish a person may possess before returning to their residence. Possession limit is twice the daily bag on game and nongame fish, except as provided in this guide, and does not apply to fish in the possession of or stored by a person at their residence.

SportFisher, most ironically, reading the pertinent regulations instead of asking laymen (albeit knowledgable laymen) for their opinions on a legal matter was exactly my point!!! Laughing

I have caught three reds before midnight and three reds after midnight with no problem.

I had one warden several years ago tell me to have at it.

For what it is worth, this is my only experience with possession laws.
