|
|
My boat motor drive shaft snapped in half and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement.
I tried all the Johnson Dealers, ebay, salvage yards on the internet and no luck.
It seems the part I am looking for is obsolete anywhere I look.
Engine model # J8RESR
Part # 033254
25 1/2" drive shaft.
Anyone on here have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance... _________________ "Do not call my Jeep a Car ever again " |

Shouldn't that P/N be 0334254? Typo?
Anyway, that part is no longer made in either a Johnson part or a Evinrude
part, which both motors use the same shaft. Going to be a really tuff one
most people just have a machine shop make the shaft for them.
If you have the old one it can be used as the pattern.
Cost may be more than you want to spend.

Yes that was a typo.
0334254 is the part I'm looking for.
I will consider anything at this point to get me back in the water. _________________ "Do not call my Jeep a Car ever again " |

I wonder what the Rockwell hardness is on that shaft? Did it twist or just snap. Is the break clean or rough. What made it break? It's just an 8hp. If it was mine and I could see the break I might would attempt a 100% welded repair. I wonder what type of metal/alloy it's made from? You know like 1080, 4130, 4140,? Just IMS thinking.........nowadays the gears make more clanking noise when they turn. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Nice I heat treat 17-4ph almost on a daily basis. 1900 degs for 20 -30 minutes and for this hardness a 1025 deg temper for 4 hours...known as h1025. I could only find that they are a stainless .....good research job Mike. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Good Deal...
I took it to a machine shop and should know more by Monday.
If they are unable to fix it I'll post pics of the area of the shaft that snapped. _________________ "Do not call my Jeep a Car ever again "

There is a fine smooth indention on the shaft and the "break" is the the right hand side of it.
The second pic are the ends of the drive shaft.
