Well since one of the other threads showed some decent floundering activity, i figured id start an official flounder thread.

I say it can be used to post reports, pictures, tactics, equipment and personal info to help each other out. You dont have to give out specific location/s of your success if you dont want to but just some general info to read and check up on.

Post away boys and girls....

I'll start it by shortening info from the other thread. So far a little slow for the wade giggers with reports of many small fish being spotted.

So far for me its two trips with only two keepers seen and gigged. Both trips were wading along Corpus Bay.

Got my new gigs and handles in today. They are ready to go. Sounds like starting on Wed the winds are gonna lay.

Talked to a buddy flounder guide of mine and he said its been sliw for him in the Aransas and Port A area. He's seeing a bunch of short fish also.

Gig on!!

Fishin has not been tough by any means this year. Actually, 2013 blew away 2012 by a long shot !!! Yes, there are a lot of undersize fish this year but that's because our beautiful resource the "Flounder" has thrived since being outlawed for gigging in November since 2009. Anyway, if you want to get on the flounder you will definitely have to work for em, no one said it was gna be easy. With that being said, I got some work to do 2nite... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Here's a couple of the bigger ones from last nights trip,.ended up scratching up a limit in what I would say is a rather long night, (5 hr trip).

I don't know but I think there is a little difference when floundering from a boat and when hoofing it. The next reel cold front should get the tides and flounder moving. I used to flounder alot and had a spot that at any given time during the season you fill up a 25ft stringer to the point where it was just to heavy to drag, because we were hoofing it. The only problem was that when you got to the spot you had to stay all night so that you navigate back out with some daylight. Plus it's way up in the area of Holiday Beach and Goose Island. Good thread for all those interested in gigging Flounder.

In the past few weeks the flounder have been showing up in my wading spots and have been catching solid limits fairly easy, most of the time being able to catch a limit from a single pothole without moving. Rod and reel not gigging, shallow flats adjacent to deep water.

U got it PB, let me know when you want to go. It's gna be full throttle as soon as that first REAL cold front blows thru and the water temp starts to drop

Not trying to hi jack the thread, but 1 quick flounder gigging question. What depth water do you usually look for to gig flounder?

Hey extreme, not hijacking at all. Thats why i started this thread.

Im not very experienced in gigging but i know ive gigged them fom 3" to 3' of water. These last two fish we gigged were both in about 10" of water over solid sand.

I really need to tag along with someone on a flounder trip to learn what I'm missing. I can find just about any other type of fish but targeting flounder seems to elude me. I've seen them go airborne in front of me while trout fishing and I still can't catch them consistently. Laughing
