Assuming PNS opens before shark a thon weekend, when does everyone start arriving and how far down do they usually go? I'm going down Wednesday night and plan on heading down to the jetty. Will it already be crowded then and are there likely to be crowds that far south?
Thanks |

I hear a bunch of people get there Wed and Thur to get a spot and set up. There will be people from the payment to the jetties. However the jetties are off limits to Sharkathon contestants. Good luck!!

Dang!! Talk about having a short fuse. The guy just asked a few simple questions just like asking any other none sharkathon questions in life. Sometimes asking a few questions and finding the people willing to help will save you a bunch of time and money.
BTW, im no beach or sharkathon expert since last year was our first time fishing this bad arse tournament. But i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Assuming that PINS will be open is a big assumption right now. And we know what happens when you assume.
I'll tell you this - I don't want to be ANYWHERE near mustang island that weekend if 70 miles of fishing real-estate is still inaccessible.
Good luck to you and your father, and let us know how you guys do. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Predictably so based on past years:
As Ray said, folks fish anywhere from the pavement to the jetties. However, the further south you go, the lesser the frequency of camps. The jetty shouldn't be too bad in that you'll have plenty of fishable space down there I'm sure.
A lot of folks head south on Tuesday/Wednesday. Some Friday Morning. And some folks will arrive Saturday Morning in no hurry at all, check in and fish for a few hours.

| Thanks for the help. You are right, if PINS is closed mustang island will be overrun. I may want to head down south to Port Isabel and come up the beach as far as I can. This may be the last time I fish the coast with my dad. Never know. So I am really hoping PINS opens by then. |

This is from the last Sharkathon email newsletter:
"Currently the park is still closed due to the recent government shutdown, we are monitoring the situation very closely, yes we always have a back up date planned in case there is a closure. The backup dates for this year are Nov. 8th - 10th and hopefully the situation will be resolved soon and no contingency plans will have to be used."
MI should be safe to fish if PINS is closed.
