According to the news today, Utah is opening its National Parks. Seems they are going to pay the US gov't the costs of opening/running the parks....until the gov't shutdown ends. It also seems they plan/hope to later get reimbursed for the costs. They are doing it because their hotel/tourist businesses are losing a lot of money with the National Parks being shutdown.

Brewster County is doing pretty much the same thing for Big Bend National Park. It basically boils down to the Feds are closing State Highways that run through the parks, and they (the Feds) have overstepped their bounds.

Lets hope the current Administration has 'jumped the shark' on this one and there is a major backlash come 2014.

Id say its safe to say the backlash is being heard and will be felt in 2014. With a 1/3 approval rating, it wont be pretty

New York and Arizona have now joined Utah in paying to keep their National Parks open. Maybe we should all send emails to Gov. Perry asking him to dip into the state's "Rainy Day Fund" and reopen PINS and Big Bend.

about 400+ folks are prolly REAL interested in that happening....
maybe some calls to the Gov's office would be prudent...
heard on the late news that Arz and NY have done the same, btw.

Write to your congress person and get them to cut loose some of the general fund and open PIN's. hey could dip into the Rainey Day fund if need be.
Funny they put the parks and wildlife funds in there and spend it on something elce.

Mel, we need to see Padre Island National Seashore on that list.
Wouldn't that be great. Perry should have thought of that.

I don't think the state or anyone should have to pay, don't reopen any facilities just unlock the damn gate. All I want is access to what God created, access should be free.
