Went out this morning in hopes of 1ft seas with 5mph wind. Boy was that report wrong. Due to the washing machine of the gulf we decided to stay closer than normal. Tie up to the rig, and right off the bat a solid weight of a fish. get it close to the boat to realize it was a cobia. Didnt put up any kind of fight so i knew it wasnt over. got him to the surface and all hell broke loose. After a couple minutes of a fight get him back to the boat and pull him in. I dont remember where they need to measure so i went from fork to head and he was a solid 39". good enough in my book and in the cooler it went. First landed cobia of the year for me, better late than never.

Next drop yielded the same result. nice heavy fish a little more fight and some head shaking. i was thinking you got to be kidding me another cobia! see some brown color as it was comming up and got the excited feeling.as it got closer i realized it wasnt a cobia but a shark. Still excited to be catching fish even if i dont keep sharks. Throughout the day we pulled in a total of 5 sharks. 4, what i believe were bull sharks in the 3-4ft range and a bonnet head shark that fought like a monster.

About 3 we decided to pull it in and make a few trolls around the rig. my buddy was getting annoyed with something toying with his bait on the bottom. So he started to reel it up and about half way up it was like a freight train grabbed his hook and went screaming. here he was expecting to pull in an empty hook and wasnt prepared, almost dropped the rod. Get it up to the boat and it is a huge smack. This thing went a solid 30". As of today i am no longer the record holder of the largest smack of my friends. My biggest went 28".

Like i said we were pulling everything up getting ready to troll. First pass all hell broke loose. 2 rods went screaming at the same time no more than a minute after dropping them. Double king hookup, unfortunately we smoked both of them so we had to keep them.. Next pass of the rig was 2 knock downs and only 1 hook up. next pass after that was 2 knockdowns and no hook ups. And then it just stopped. So we called it a day.

over all a good day. there are some weeds moving in, it is thick in patches but over all pretty spotty. as the day went on it got a little calmer. Water was a green color, dirty and vis was about 5 feet. tons of jelly fish..

i enjoy reading the reports here, just wish i could write as creatively as others. It was a good day and almost everything was caught on squid, except for the kings. that really boggled my mind.
